Man loses hand in firecracker explosion during fan brawl in Brazil

Fan violence continues to be a problem at Brazilian stadiums big and small.

A man lost his hand in a confrontation between fan groups during a match between Rio de Janeiro Serie B clubs Olario and America on Wednesday.

The fan's right hand was injured while attacking another supporter, the head of Rio stadium security, Joao Fiorentini, told Globo on Thursday night.

"The guy only lost his hand because he was attacking another holding a firecracker. If he hadn't attacked, none of this would've happened," said Fiorentini of the incident.

The brawl, which resulted in two injuries,...

Drubscky replaced Cristovao Borges, who was fired in March after poor performances in Rio's state championship. In total, he coached...

In a shocking exposé in Saturday's O Estadao, the newspaper reveals Brazil's football federation, CBF, entered into a multimillion dollar secret contract with marketing firm ISE in 2006, and since the deal's renewal in December of 2011, has given powers of player call-ups to the Cayman Islands-based company and its business partners.

According to the paper,...

Brazilian player Nego involved in fight with police

Nego, a player with Brazilian side CSA, was detained by Military Police (PM) after arguing with a referee and shoving a police officer following his team's 2-1 loss to rival club CRB in the Alagoas state championship on Sunday.
