Sochaux not giving up on L1 hopes

Lens fans eventually saw their Ligue 1 status confirmed, though it may come at the expense of Sochaux.

Sochaux have announced they will ask to be reinstated in Ligue 1 after they feel they were treated unfairly by French football authorities.

Relegated after finishing 18th in the top flight last season, Sochaux were the likely beneficiaries if Lens did not win their battle to have their promotion as the 2013/14 Ligue 2 runners-up validated.

Having twice seen their arguments rejected by the DNCG, the body which oversees the financial well-being of clubs, due to a shortfall in their budget, Lens w...

RC Lens banned from joining Ligue 1

RC Lens will remain in Ligue 2 next season after their promotion was denied.

Newly promoted French club RC Lens will be prohibited from joining Ligue 1 this season because of financial concerns.

The DNCG had concerns that Azerbaijani owner Hafiz Mammadov had not put enough money into the team for it to succeed at the next level, and asked for 10 million euros to...

Vincent Nogueira doesn't rule out switch

Philadelphia Union midfielder Vincent Nogueira moved to the MLS to escape the goldfish-bowl pressure of playing for his local club in France, Nogueira told L'Equipe.

"It's a choice that goes beyond sport, almost philosophical. Sochaux gave me a comfortable future, and this life is the one I wanted. I can't complain. But sometimes I get the impression I missed out on something," Nogueira, who has scored once in four MLS outings, explained.

Born in nearby Besancon, Nogueira, 26, joined Ligue 1 o...

Vincent Nogueira joins Philadelphia

CHESTER, Pa. -- Midfielder Vincent Nogueira signed with Major League Soccer's Philadelphia Union in a transfer from the French club Sochaux.

The 26-year-old Frenchman came to Sochaux in the 2007-08 season and had been with the club longer than any player.

He will join the Union in Philadelphia for preseason training.
