Steve Bruce hails Hull matchwinner Mo Diame for 'a bit of magic'

Mo Diame
Mo Diame shoots to score the winner.

Steve Bruce toasted a moment of magic from Mo Diame as Hull celebrated promotion back to the Premier League.

Midfielder Diame settled a tense Championship play-off final with a stunning strike from the edge of the area, sinking Sheffield Wednesday 1-0.

City boss Bruce admitted he feared his side would blow their chance after they missed a hatful of opportunities to break the deadlock at Wembley.

Diame himself hit a post, Andy Robertson missed a sitter from eight yards, Abel Hernandez's header was...

Mohamed Diame's goal sends Hull City back into the Premier League

Mo Diame
Mohamed Diame's 10th goal of the season clinched promotion for Hull City.

LONDON -- Three quick thoughts from Hull City's 1-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship playoff final.

Hull City secured a return to the Premier League with a deserved 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship playoff final at Wembley.

The classiest of finishes from Mohamed Diame was enough to earn promotion at the end of a season that, for several reasons, had threatened to unravel.

Consistent speculation surrounded the future of manager Steve Bruce, while a poor run of form in the second half of the season and concerns surrounding their seriously-ill owner Assem Allam disrupted their...

Sheffield Wednesday fans buy unused Hull City tickets for playoff final

Sheffield Wednesday fans are purchasing unsold Hull City tickets for Championship playoff at Wembley.

The Football League has warned there will be plenty of empty seats at Wembley on Saturday after Hull failed to sell their full ticket allocation for the Sky Bet Championship playoff final.

Given 38,956 tickets to sell, Hull have handed back an undisclosed number of those, although opponents Sheffield Wednesday have sold out their 38,889 allocation.

Wednesday supporters also bought up a number of additional seats to cope with demand, once it became clear Hull would be unable to pack out their section...

Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday tantalisingly close to Premier League

The coverage of the Championship playoff final, one of the biggest games in English football, usually centres around how much money the winner will be guaranteed with a place in the Premier League.

Yet while that cash is significant (whoever wins can consider themselves around £180-200 million richer), for Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City and the 90,000 inside Wembley on Saturday, this game, day and occasion is not about finance but glory. It's about the glory of winning, of an entire season...
