Shanghai Shenhua striker Carlos Tevez has launched an attack on the capabilities of Chinese footballers, claiming those playing in the country will not be able to reach the top "even in 50 years."

The Argentine has spent the last nine months in China after joining Shenhua on a lucrative two-year contract from Boca Juniors in January,

"In South America and Europe, players learn to play football when they're kids, but not here," Tevez told SFR Sport. "So technically they are not very good.

CSL: Hulk, Wu Lei each score brace as Shanghai SIPG close gap with leaders

A double from Hulk led Shanghai SIPG's rout of Carlos Tevez's Shanghai Shenhua side.
Hulk netted this strike outside the box to earn a brace and lead Shanghai SIPG's 6-0 rout over Shanghai Shenhua.

Hulk and Wu Lei scored twice as Shanghai SIPG crushed Shanghai Shenhua 6-1 on Saturday evening to close the gap on Chinese Super League leaders Guangzhou Evergrande to five points.

Carlos Tevez was on the scoresheet for Shenhua, who saw Gus Poyet resign from his position as head coach at the start of the week, but the Argentinian was unable to stop a rampant SIPG from notching up a convincing win.

'Overweight' Carlos Tevez benched indefinitely at Shanghai Shenhua - Wu

Guangzhou hope to get back on track vs. Jiangsu, while Shenua are without Tevez for the Shanghai derby.

Striker Tevez, who is reportedly the world's highest-paid player on £650,000 a week, has struggled for form in China and has only scored twice in 11 appearances.

The 33-year-old former Manchester United, Manchester City and West Ham forward joined Shenhua from Boca Juniors on Dec. 29 last year.

Gus Poyet quits as coach after Shanghai Shenhua fall to 12th in China

Gus Poyet, head coach of Shanghai Shenhua, during the AFC Champions League 2017 playoff match against Brisbane Roar.
Gus Poyet lasted only 10 months as head coach of Shanghai Shenhua in China.

Gus Poyet has resigned as head coach of Shanghai Shenhua after the club suffered a fourth straight defeat in the Chinese Super League (CSL) on Sunday evening at the hands of Henan Jianye.

The 2-1 loss saw Shenhua slip to 12th in the standings and prompted the Uruguayan to tender his resignation to the club after a difficult season in charge in Shanghai.

"Mr. Poyet formally offered his resignation to Shanghai Shenhua today," the club said in a statement.

"After considering the decision, the club...

Chinese FA Cup success is Shanghai Shenhua's 'most important' - Poyet

Gus Poyet took over at Shanghai Shenhua in November 2016.

Gus Poyet is hoping success in this year's Chinese FA Cup can salvage a difficult first season for him at the helm of Shanghai Shenhua.

Poyet was appointed as replacement for Gregorio Manzano by Shenhua in late November, but the club have not managed to build on last season's third-place finish in the Chinese Super League despite the high-profile signing of Carlos Tevez.

Shenhua are currently 11th in the standings with less than a third of the season remaining and well adrift from the qualifying...
