Melbourne Victory sign Georg Niedermeier from Freiburg

Defensive reinforcements have arrived for Melbourne Victory with experienced German defender Georg Niedermeier signing on with the A-League champions.

The one-year deal is subject to a medical to be completed when the 32-year-old arrives in Melbourne next week.

Niedermeier has played his entire career to date in his homeland and previously formed a strong centre-back partnership at VfB Stuttgart with Frenchman Matthieu Delpierre, a former Victory favourite.

Arsenal in 'concrete talks' over signing Caglar Soyuncu from Freiburg - agent

Arsenal have held "concrete talks" with Freiburg about a move for centre-back Caglar Soyuncu but have yet to agree a fee, the player's agent has said.

Mustafa Dogru told Turkish Football that Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has been tracking Soyuncu and the Gunners are keen on a move for the 22-year-old Turkey international.

Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu is set to join Arsenal this summer, according to the president of his former Turkish club.

The 21-year-old centre-back has had an impressive season in the Bundesliga that has also seen him linked with Bayern Munich.

But Seyit Mehmet Ozkan, the president of Turkish second-tier club Altinordu, said he expects Soyuncu to move to London.

"Caglar Soyuncu is set to join Arsenal," Ozkan said at the International Football Economic Forum, according to Turkish newspaper Sabah.


VAR controversy: Freiburg won't protest against penalty decision vs. Mainz

Freiburg will not protest about the VAR decision to award a penalty to Mainz during half-time of the Bundesliga match between the two on Monday, but said they remain unhappy about the incident.
