A Nils Petersen hat-trick helped Freiburg come from behind to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 4-1 and move off the foot of the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Marco Russ gave the visitors the lead in the first minute and their lead did not seem in any danger until Vladimir Darida levelled from the penalty spot after an hour.

Petersen then took centre stage, scoring two goals in five minutes before completing his hat-trick and Freiburg's much-needed third win of the season late on.

Nils Petersen close to Freiburg move from Werder Bremen

Nils Petersen is on the verge of joining Freiburg from Werder Bremen with both clubs confirming negotiations are underway for the former Bayern Munich forward, who himself says a deal has been done.

Earlier on Monday, Bremen's director of sport Thomas Eichin told Sport1 there "has been contact between the two clubs and we are in talks with Nils.''

His Freiburg counterpart Jochen Saier told the Badische Zeitung that Petersen is "one of the most palpable candidates for the profile we have drawn up,''...

Freiburg let a two-goal lead slip to draw 2-2 against Hannover and remain rooted to the foot of the Bundesliga for the winter, allowing Borussia Dortmund to breathe a small sigh of relief on Sunday evening.

Goals from Mike Frantz and Marc-Oliver Kempf put Christian Streich's men on course for all three points, abut Leonardo Bittencourt made things interesting in the final seven minutes and Joselu snatched the Reds a point in stoppage time.

The draw means Freiburg remain with Dortmund, Werder Bremen,...

Thomas Muller scored Bayern's second goal of the evening.

Bayern Munich further extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga with a 2-0 win over Freiburg, although it came at a cost with Medhi Benatia and Xabi Alonso limping off injured.

Arjen Robben and Thomas Muller netted the goals which earned Bayern their next win on the way to what looks like another unchallenged Bundesliga title, but the sight of Benatia holding his hamstring and Alonso leaving the field early dampened the spirits.

A firework and laser display ended the evening for the defending...

Freiburg and Hamburg remain in the midst of a Bundesliga relegation battle after sharing a 0-0 draw at the Dreisamstadion.

Freiburg paid the price for missing an early penalty through Vladimir Darida in the second minute as they were held at home.

Hamburg's coach Josef Zinnbauer said before the game that he would be happy with a draw since that would keep his team ahead of their hosts - and that is exactly what he got with his team showing little in attack.

Freiburg could have taken the lead within...
