Hertha Berlin beat newly-promoted Freiburg 2-1 in a Bundesliga game which came to life in stoppage time after a rather pedestrian 90 minutes at the Olympiastadion.

Vladimir Darida gave the hosts the lead after an hour, celebrating with just one arm raised after scoring against his former club.

It looked like that sole strike was going to be enough to win it on a hot and sunny afternoon in the German capital, which saw breaks for water in both halves.

However, Freiburg - who regained their top flight...

Christian Streich unhappy with boos during Freiburg's promotion party

Christian Streich celebrates during the victory over Heidenheim.

Freiburg coach Christian Streich said his club could do without the fans who he said ruined their promotion party at the weekend.

Freiburg clinched the 2. Bundesliga title with a 2-0 win over Heidenheim on Sunday, but having already secured their promotion back to the top flight after only one season in the second division a week ago, it was evident that his team was not as committed as they had been in previous matches.

Nevertheless, Streich says that is no reason for some of his club's fans to...

Bundesliga promoted to Bundesliga one year after relegation

Freiburg have returned to the top flight of German football.

Freiburg secured an immediate return to the Bundesliga, one season after relegation to the second division, with a 2-1 win at Paderborn on Friday.

Goals from Mike Frantz and Nils Petersen, both set up by Maximilian Philipp in a three-minute spell just after the break, ensured Freiburg will finish at least second, earning automatic promotion.

With two rounds remaining, Freiburg has 69 points, five more than Leipzig, and 10 more than third-placed Nuremberg, which has a game in hand.

Even if Nuremberg,...
