Facundo Sava
Facundo Sava will make his competitive debut as Racing coach on Wednesday against Liga MX side Puebla.

It is going to be a cruel summer for six teams in South America. The qualifying round of the Copa Libertadores, the continent's Champions League equivalent, kicks off on Tuesday and 12 sides will be reduced to six in the group phase.

The first legs are played this week, with the return games taking place next week -- which means that before mid-February, while Carnaval is still going on, the losing six will already have bowed out of the continent's main club event.

Pato has seen a once flagging career resurrected since moving back to Brazil in January of 2013, first with Corinthians, which own his rights, and most recently with Sao Paulo, where he has recaptured the form that once made him one of world football's top young prospects before injuries sidetracked his development.

Still only 26, the former...

Alexandre Pato interested in January Premier League transfer - sources

With January's transfer window fast approaching, ESPN FC's Alexis Nunes and Shaka Hislop assess the latest round of rumours.

Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato has set his sights on a move to the Premier League when the January transfer window opens, sources have told ESPN FC.

Pato, 26, is expected to leave Corinthians in the New Year with the club willing to sell the former AC Milan star when his loan stay at Sao Paulo ends.

The forward has been on loan at Sao Paulo from Corinthians for the past two seasons, scoring 24 goals and recapturing the form which saw him win a big-money move to AC Milan in 2007.
