Paul Warne celebrated becoming Rotherham manager until the end of the season by masterminding a surprise 2-1 win over his hometown club.

Warne, who has been interim boss at the struggling Millers since November, watched on as goals from Jerry Yates and Tom Adeyemi downed the 10-men Canaries for just a fourth win of the season.

Rotherham are now nine points from safety and will hope that this can be the catalyst for an unlikely fight against the drop in the second half of the season.

Rotherham were dealt yet more misery after being dumped out of the FA Cup 3-2 by Oxford.

The first ever meeting between the two sides in the competition went the way of the League One visitors thanks to goals from Ryan Taylor, Phil Edwards and Kane Hemmings. Former Rotherham man Chris Maguire also missed a first half penalty.

Danny Ward had equalised in the second half for the Championship's bottom side and despite Tom Adeyemi's late header they exited to boos at the New York Stadium.

Leeds kick-started the year they hope will be the one that sees them return to the big time with a routine 3-0 Sky Bet Championship win over Rotherham.

United fans are enjoying the unfamiliar feeling of entering a new year with something to play for and they maintained their momentum thanks to Kyle Bartley's header and Chris Wood's double in the second half.

Although not at their best - particularly in the first half - Leeds turned on the style after the break as they moved up to fourth in the table...

Burton scored a quickfire double to steal a vital 2-1 win at Rotherham, whose hopes of entering 2017 in touch with their relegation rivals suffered a damaging blow.

The Millers dominated 85 minutes of the Sky Bet Championship encounter at New York Stadium, but the five first-half minutes where Chris O'Grady and Jackson Irvine scored proved pivotal as Burton registered their first ever away win in the second tier.

It moved them 12 points clear of their bottom-placed hosts and they will be reasonably...

Rotherham's impressive first-half showing almost counted for nothing as they were left hanging on to claim a vital three points with a 3-2 win over Wigan in a match between the Sky Bet Championship's bottom two teams.

The Millers, who have endured a horror first half to the season, blitzed their nearest rivals in the opening 45 minutes as goals from Aimen Belaid, Danny Ward and a Dan Burn own goal gave them a comfortable 3-0 half-time lead.

But the second half was a different story and Wigan, booed...
