Sardar Azmoun: I was right to stay at Rostov despite Liverpool interest

Craig Burley and Mark Donaldson dissect three penalty incidents that went uncalled in Man City's 1-1 draw with Liverpool.
Jose Mourinho admits his Man United players were physically spent and were fortunate to not go to extra time with Rostov.
Sardar Azmoun has said he felt he would have been a bit-part player at Liverpool.'

Sardar Azmoun has said he made the right decision to stay at Russian club FC Rostov despite interest from clubs including Liverpool during the January window.

In November, sources told ESPN FC that Liverpool were among a host of clubs monitoring the situation of the Iran international forward.

A source close to the player said Azmoun would have been keen on a move to Liverpool depending on the role earmarked for him.

FC Rostov can upset Manchester United if they 'stick to the plan' - Mevlja

ESPN FC's Steve Nicol and Ross Dyer go toe-to-toe in predicting who will advance to the Europa League quarterfinals.

FC Rostov centre-back Miha Mevlja is unfazed about his team's chances against Premier League giants Manchester United in Thursday's Europa League second-leg clash.

Jose Mourinho's side holds a slender advantage over the Russians thanks to the 1-1 draw in Rostov last week, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan's opener being cancelled out by Aleksandr Bukharov's equaliser.

Mevlja, however, remains bullish that the Russian Premier League can cause an upset and advance to the quarterfinals.

Jose Mourinho insists Chelsea only have themselves to blame for not being in European competition this season.

Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial both remain sidelined for Manchester United's Europa League round-of-16 second leg against Rostov on Thursday, manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed.

Sources told ESPN FC earlier this week that Rooney was in contention to return to the United squad after missing Monday's 1-0 FA Cup quarterfinal defeat against Chelsea through a leg injury.

However, Mourinho said that the England captain has not recovered in time for the game along with Martial, who also missed the Chelsea...

Rostov banned from playing at home until state of pitch improves

The Russian Football Premier League (RFPL) has banned Rostov from playing on the pitch at their Olimp-2 stadium until the state of the surface improves.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho complained about the playing surface ahead of his side's 1-1 Europa League draw at Rostov last week.

Mourinho said UEFA had dismissed his complaints that the pitch was dangerous, but the RFPL committee that oversees pitches in the league has since deemed the surface to be unacceptable.

The RFPL said in a statement...
