Nick Rimando, Jeff Cassar keeping Real Salt Lake on the right track

A pair of clubs which have gotten off to opposite starts met in a Western Conference clash when Real Salt Lake played host to the Houston Dynamo on Saturday evening at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando is feeling the burn. Not from a strenuous workout mind you, but from saving a shot -- and preserving a 2-1 victory over the Houston Dynamo -- with his face.

"It's good," he said with a laugh about his noggin, which he used to thwart a goal-bound attempt from Dynamo midfielder Andrew Wenger late in Sunday's match. "The next day it just felt like a really bad sunburn."

NYCFC returns to winning ways as Jordan Morris lifts Sounders to victory

New York City FC defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in an interesting matchup between East and West.

David Villa scored twice as New York City FC won its first game since the season opener, 3-2 over the Vancouver Whitecaps at Yankee Stadium on Saturday.

Vancouver took the lead after just 37 seconds as Octavio Rivero pounced on a loose ball following a gaffe by NYCFC keeper Josh Saunders.

But Villa found the net twice in a six-minute span, including with a remarkable scissor kick to give the home side the lead in the 41st minute.

Christian Bolanos drew Vancouver back level in the second half, but Stiven...

Gio dos Santos, Steven Gerrard help Galaxy rout RSL; Union beat NYCFC

Emmanuel Boateng had a goal and two assists and the LA Galaxy beat Real Salt Lake 5-2.

Giovani dos Santos and Steven Gerrard scored to highlight the LA Galaxy's 5-2 win over Real Salt Lake on Saturday night.

RSL keeper Nick Rimando, making his 400th MLS start, saved Gerrard's penalty in the sixth minute and Juan Manuel Martinez gave the Utah club the early lead on a header 10 minutes later.

But Gyasi Zardes tied it for LA with a right-footed blast in the 19th minute and Mike Magee smashed in Emmanuel Boateng's cross for the go-ahead goal in the 26th.
