Former Costa Rica and Real Salt Lake star Alvaro Saborio retires

Alvaro Saborio is Real Salt Lake's all-time leading goal scorer.

Former Costa Rica and MLS striker Alvaro Saborio has announced his retirement following a reported dispute with Saprissa fans. 

Saborio, who earned over 100 caps with Costa Rica, recently joined Saprissa after deciding to leave D.C United in December.

According to CRHoy.com, Saborio came into conflict with fans in a recent loss and afterward  he decided to retire "more than anything to protect my family."

Real Salt Lake completed the signing of U.S. youth international Brooks Lennon on a season-long loan from Liverpool on Monday.

Lennon, 19, formerly played at RSL's academy before signing with Liverpool in the summer of 2015 after impressing on a trial.

The forward has yet to play for Liverpool's first team, but he has been impressing for the under-23s this season, having progressed from the U18s.

Veteran defender and former MLS Cup winner Nat Borchers is hoping to add a second title to his collection with the Portland Timbers.
Nat Borchers has decided to retire at age 35.

Portland Timbers defender Nat Borchers announced his retirement on Friday.

Known for his long red beard, Borchers decided to hang up his boots after 14 seasons at age 35.

"I have given the game everything and will step away extremely grateful to have played 14 professional seasons," he said in a statement. "While this decision was tremendously difficult, I am proud of my contribution to this chapter of Major League Soccer.

Real Salt Lake reacquires forward Luis Silva after year with Tigres

Luis Silva, left, returns to MLS after a season with Tigres.

Real Salt Lake has reacquired Luis Silva after the forward spent a year with Tigres in Liga MX.

Silva, 28, played the second half of the 2015 season with RSL and returns after making only two appearances for Tigres.

"We are excited to have Luis back," RSL general manager Craig Waibel said in a statement. "He's a talented player that we loved having here and during that time, he fit in very well with the organization. He can play multiple positions and brings another dimension to the attacking front."
