Former Man City target McDonald Mariga could have been a success in England, says brother Victor Wanyama

Victor Wanyama believes his brother McDonald Mariga could have been a big hit in English football if he'd secured a move to the Premier League earlier in his career.

Despite winning the Champions League in 2010 with Internazionale, 30-year-old Mariga has failed to realise his potential, struggling with a series of debilitating injuries and never again reaching the heights he achieved in Lombardy.

Once upon a time he appeared primed to move to the Premier League, with both Manchester City in January...

Ankle injury forces former Swansea City striker Michu into retirement

Michu enjoyed the best spell of his career with Swansea City.

Former Swansea and Napoli striker Michu has been forced to quit football at the age of 31.

The once-capped Spain international has suffered from a persistent ankle problem which limited him to only 12 starts for Real Oviedo in Spain's Segunda Division last season.

"According to medical reports, the current situation of my right ankle has come to a point where it has forced me to say goodbye as a professional football player today," Michu said in a statement on his Twitter account.

Former Swansea City star Michu forced into retirement at 31

Ankle injuries have forced former Swansea City midfielder Michu to retire at age 31.

Michu was Swansea's top scorer in the 2012-13, striking for 22 Premier League goals after moving from Rayo Vallecano for just £2 million.

But the injuries derailed his career and within two years he exited Swansea and was left to play in the fourth tier in Spain.

He played last season with Real Oviedo in the second division but scored just once in 27 games.

Michu scores twice for Real Oveido on return to professional football

Michu was released by Swansea last year after a string of injury problems.

Former Swansea City striker Michu scored twice in his first professional game for nearly two years on Thursday, but was unable to prevent Real Oviedo from going out of the Copa del Rey to Murcia.

Michu, 30, who had stopped playing because of the pain caused by ankle problems, joined Oviedo on a one-year contract last month.

He played 120 minutes as Real Oviedo were beaten 4-3 after extra time.

Oviedo's coach, the former Real Madrid and Spain defender Fernando Hierro, told the club's official website:...
