Champions Hearts extended their winning streak in the Scottish Championship to nine matches with a 2-0 victory against Queen of the South at Tynecastle.

The visitors afforded Robbie Neilson's men a guard of honour as they emerged from the tunnel on to the pitch and the generosity did not end there as Hearts went ahead with the first chance of the game.

Osman Sow received the ball with his back to goal and turned his man before rolling a shot into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.

Mark Stewart's double helped give Raith a comfortable 3-0 win over Queen of the South.

The midfielder hit his sixth and seventh goals of the season as Rovers sealed back-to-back wins to stay sixth in the Scottish Championship.

Lewis Vaughan also netted late on as Queen of the South remain fourth, five points behind Rangers.

Mark Millar had gone close before Stewart's 23rd-minute opener when he fired into the top corner from inside the area.

Ian McShane twice went close for the visitors before Stewart...

Queens broke the deadlock after 27 minutes when Iain Russell headed Mark Millar's deep cross in at the back post.

The hosts doubled their lead in the 51st minute when Michael Paton swept the ball past Cowdenbeath goalkeeper Robbie Thomson after impressive work by Russell in the build-up.

Queen of the South ended their three-match winless run by beating Raith 2-1.

The result moves Queens four points clear of Falkirk, who have a game in hand, in the race for the play-offs.

Lewis Vaughan opened the scoring after nine minutes, tapping in at the back post from Mark Millar's corner.

The lead only lasted 11 minutes as Lewis Vaughan bagged his second goal in as many league games when he ignored cries of handball from the hosts to lash home from inside the area.

Rangers again failed to take off-field positivity on to the park as 17-year-old Queen of the South forward Aidan Smith marked his first league appearance with a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Ibrox.

There was plenty for the Rangers players to draw on with Ibrox great John Greig among a 35,018 crowd as guests of the new-look board, but there was a distinct lack of inspiration on the park with Queens coming closest in the first half when Michael Paton hit the post.

On a day when Newcastle owner Mike...
