Nico Castillo's stay with Pumas could be short, but the team will look to win with the Chilean striker while it can.

MEXICO CITY -- Among the passionate spectrum of fandom for Mexico's Liga MX clubs, those who follow Pumas UNAM have consistently been among the most devoted.

As such, it wasn't entirely surprising when a fan decided to tattoo striker Nico Castillo's likeness on his arm. What is surprising, however, is the context behind the decision. It has been less than nine months since the 24-year-old Castillo arrived in Mexico.

Paco Palencia out as Pumas head coach after poor start to season

Paco Palencia led Pumas to the 2016 Apetura semis in his debut season.

Paco Palencia is out as manager of Liga MX club Pumas following a disappointing start to the 2017 Apertura.

The former Mexico international exits following Tuesday's 2-1 home loss to Morelia, leaving the Mexico City club in 14th place in the Liga MX league table.

Pumas announced in a brief statement that Sergio Egea would take over in a temporary capacity, with former coach Guillermo Vazquez and Victor Manuel Vucetich possible candidates for the full-time job.
