Timbers beat NYCFC to go top in West; Jozy Altidore lifts Toronto by San Jose

Diego Valeri was the only player to etch his name on the score-sheet, with the Timbers winning away to a hostile NYCFC crowd.

Diego Valeri scored for the seventh straight game to match the MLS record and help the Portland Timbers move to the top of the Western Conference with a 1-0 win at New York City FC on Saturday.

The only goal came just before halftime when Darren Mattocks dispossessed Andrea Pirlo deep in his own zone -- leaving the Italy legend calling for a foul that never came -- and fed Valeri in the center of the box.

Valeri took his goal tally on the season to 17, level with Chicago's Nemanja Nikolic...

Brek Shea returns to haunt Orlando; Crew SC move up as Loons stun Fire

Orlando City's struggles continued in a home loss to Vancouver, with former Lion Brek Shea providing the winning goal.

Brek Shea scored against his former team to help the Vancouver Whitecaps win 2-1 at Orlando City on Saturday night.

Orlando traded Shea to Vancouver before the season, and he made the Lions pay in his return to Florida by doubling the Whitecaps' lead in the 53rd minute following a counter-attack.

Vancouver had taken the lead in the ninth minute when Tommy Redding headed into his own goal while defending a set piece.

Orlando got a goal back through Cyle Larin's header in the 62nd minute, but...

Video reviews twice cost LA Galaxy in Crew SC win; Valeri sets Timbers mark

LA Galaxy fell prey to VAR and a dominant performance from Columbus, despite two penalty saves from Jon Kempin.

The LA Galaxy had a goal ruled out and Ashley Cole sent off after a pair of video reviews in a 2-0 defeat to Columbus Crew SC on Wednesday night.

Cole's studs up tackle on Pedro Santos in the 17th minute was initially whistled as a normal foul, but the referee consulted the video review system and changed the call to a red card.

The Galaxy also had a goal early in the first half negated by an offside call handed down after review.

Just before half-time, Santos threaded a pass through four defenders...

Toronto FC beats Fire to hit 50 points; Ignacio Piatti stays hot for Montreal

Nicolas Hasler's first MLS goal secured three vital points for Toronto at Chicago in a battle of two of the East's best.

Nicolas Hasler scored his first MLS goal to boost league-leading Toronto FC to a 3-1 win at the Chicago Fire on Saturday night.

After Chicago could only half-clear the ball in the 63rd minute, Victor Vazquez lofted the ball back into the box and Hasler headed home the winner.

Marco Delgado had opened the scoring and Sebastian Giovinco added a late goal as Toronto widened its lead in the Eastern Conference to seven points ahead of New York City FC's game on Sunday.
