Perth Glory's Diego Castro beats Melbourne City duo to A-League award

Diego Castro joined Perth Glory from Getafe in the summer.

Perth Glory winger Diego Castro has won the top individual honour in Australia's A-League.

Castro earned 34 votes, one clear of Aaron Mooy and seven ahead of Bruno Fornaroli, both of Melbourne City.

The Spaniard scored 13 goals in his first A-League season after moving from Spanish club Getafe last August.

Perth manager Kenny Lowe described Castro as "humble and inclusive," adding: "He's a free spirit and he's a joy, so we'll just let him be free."

Rhys Williams joins Perth Glory on a one-year deal

Rhys Williams
Rhys Williams made 126 appearances for Middlesbrough over an injury-interrupted career on Riverside.

Injury-plagued Socceroo Rhys Williams will attempt to reignite his World Cup dream via the A-League after signing with Perth on a one-year deal.

Williams has been wracked by injuries in recent years, with two separate achilles tendon ruptures cutting short his promising career at English Championship outfit Middlesbrough -- a club he once captained.

After spending a recent loan stint with Charlton Athletic, Williams decided it was the right time to come home to Perth to reunite with brother Aryn...

Diego Castro's return from injury boosts Perth's chances - Keogh

ESPN FC's Mark O'Dea and David Mitchell discuss Perth Glory's chase for the inaugural title.

Diego Castro's return to Perth Glory training on Wednesday has lifted the squad's spirits, according to teammate Andy Keogh.

Castro has shaken off a hamstring niggle and is on track to return for Sunday's elimination final against Melbourne City at AAMI Park.

The Spanish midfielder is the favourite to win this season's Johnny Warren medal as league MVP after producing a standout campaign.

Castro's wizardry with the ball and expert vision has helped transform Glory into a championship threat.
