A late penalty from Nadir Ciftci helped Dundee United overcome 10-man Partick Thistle 1-0 at Tannadice to close the gap on Scottish Premiership leaders Hamilton.

Ciftci stuck from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute after he was brought down by Thistle captain Daniel Seaborne, who was sent off for his last-man foul.

Partick were the better team in the second half but Ciftci's spot-kick means Jackie McNamara's side now sit just one point behind Hamilton, despite not being at their best in this match.

Partick Thistle full-back Stephen O'Donnell scored one and set up another as a 3-1 victory over Motherwell sent the visitors into second-bottom spot in the Scottish Premiership.

The Jags were largely comfortable after Stuart Bannigan gave them a 16th-minute lead, although the game might have been different had Henrik Ojamaa's early header been inches lower rather than hitting the underside of the bar.

O'Donnell fed Kris Doolan for the second after the break and took advantage of a completely absent...

Tope Obadeyi helped himself to a double as Kilmarnock cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Partick in the Scottish Premiership.

The English forward netted either side of the break at Rugby Park, with Manuel Pascali also on the scoresheet for the home side.

It proved to be a comprehensive and convincing victory for Allan Johnston's men, largely inspired by a man of the match display from Finland international Alexei Eremenko.

Darryl Westlake was handed his first start for Kilmarnock after a substitute...

Nathan Eccleston's first goal for Partick Thistle sent the Jags into the League Cup quarter-finals as they avenged Friday's league defeat by St Mirren with a 1-0 win at Firhill.

Both sides had chances after an uneventful first half but some poor finishing sent the game into extra-time.

The breakthrough came 10 minutes in when former Liverpool and Blackpool striker Eccleston had all the time and space he needed to tap home on the rebound after Marian Kello had stopped substitute Christie Elliott's shot...

Kenny McLean scored a 95th-minute penalty to earn Tommy Craig his first Scottish Premiership points as St Mirren boss.

Saints appeared to be heading for a sixth consecutive Scottish Premiership defeat after Kris Doolan headed Partick Thistle into a deserved half-time lead after good wing from Steven Lawless.

But Callum Ball came off the bench to guide home Jeroen Tesselaar's cross on the hour mark to claim his first goal for the club and St Mirren looked a different team as they pushed for a winner.
