Italian club Parma have announced bankruptcy after the last remaining potential investor pulled out of buying the debt-stricken club only hours before a deadline to complete a deal with the club's administrators.

Parma were officially declared bankrupt earlier this year, although the Lega Serie A advanced a relegation parachute payment to enable them to reach the end of the season.

They were relegated to Serie B, but after Parma confirmed that no parties had come forward to buy the club and take...

Two groups cleared for talks to take over bankrupt Parma

Parma memorably beat Juventus late in the season but are facing a long road back to Serie A.

PARMA, Italy -- Two parties have been cleared for talks to take over bankrupt Italian club Parma.

One party is reportedly led by retired American baseball player Mike Piazza and the other by local businessman Giuseppe Corrado, who runs a national cinema chain.

In March, Parma were declared bankrupt with debts of more than €200 million.

A statement on Parma's website says that two newly registered companies, Piazza's Nuovo Parma Calcio S.r.l. and Corrado's Magico Parma FC S.p.A. have...
