PAOK boss hit on head by beer can thrown from crowd; game abandoned

Marcus Berg gave Panathinaikos the lead before a brawl broke out.

A Greek league playoff between Panathinaikos and PAOK was abandoned after PAOK coach Vladan Ivic was hit on the head by a beer can thrown from the stands.

Ivic was taken to hospital for treatment after the incident, which followed a 54th-minute brawl involving several players.

Play was suspended for more than an hour before the game was eventually abandoned.

Gilberto Silva has left Panathinaikos by mutual consent.

Gilberto Silva has left his role as Panathinaikos sporting director by mutual consent, the Greek club have announced.

The former Brazil midfielder, a key member of the 2002 World Cup-winning side, was in the post for only seven months following his appointment in mid-May.

The 40-year-old spent the last three seasons of his playing career at Panathinaikos following a six-season spell with Arsenal that ended in July 2008.

Andrea Stramaccioni is out at Panathinaikos after a year in charge.

Greek giants Panathinaikos have fired coach Andrea Stramaccioni following a series of disappointing results.

The 40-year-old Italian was dismissed after a meeting on Wednesday with the club's chairman -- a day after Panathinaikos lost 2-1 to second-division club OFI in the Greek Cup.

A former coach at Italian clubs Inter Milan and Udinese, Stramaccioni took over at Panathinaikos last November.

Panathinaikos have only 15 points after nine matches in the Greek league, and are level with AEK Athens...

Man United stunned at Fenerbahce as Aritz Aduriz nets 5, Saints beat Inter

Manchester United's troubles away from home in Europe continued in a 2-1 defeat at Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday as Paul Pogba limped off injured.

United, who are winless in their last nine European away games and have lost eight of them, looked out of sorts as Moussa Sow's second-minute overhead kick and a Jeremain Lens free kick provided the Turkish side with three points.

Jose Mourinho's side made the worst possible start to the game, falling behind in spectacular fashion...
