Tottenham rally to win in Cyprus

Roberto Soldado celebrates scoring Tottenham's equaliser on Thursday against AEL Limassol.

Tottenham came from behind to take a 2-1 win in the first leg of their Europa League qualifying play-off against AEL Limassol.

The hosts took a 14th minute lead through Adrian Sardinero and it held until 16 minutes from time, when Roberto Soldado levelled for the Londoners.

BATE Borisov escape in final minute

Sergey Krivets was the hero for BATE Borisov as he popped up in the final minute to secure a 3-1 win over Debrecen to book their place in the Champions League playoffs.

The Belarusian Premier League outfit, who lost the first leg of their third qualifying-round clash 1-0, were on their way out of the competition on away goals as 10-man Debrecen almost held out at 2-1 before Krivets' late show at the Borisov Gradski Stadium.

Newcastle United midfielder Mehdi Abeid has joined Panathinaikos on a season-long loan deal.

Former Lens midfielder Mehdi Abeid is just one of the Magpies' ever-growing French contingent
Mehdi Abeid was loaned to St Johnstone last season.

Abeid, 20, joined Newcastle from Lens in 2011 but has struggled to break into Alan Pardew’s first-team plans.

He headed to Scottish side St Johnstone in January to continue his development and will now look to make an impression at Panathinaikos.
