Kyle Vassell struck a brilliant winner on his debut 10 minutes from time as Oxford came from behind to beat Carlisle 2-1 at the Kassam Stadium.

The on-loan Peterborough striker came on as a 75th-minute substitute, and five minutes later he hit a rasping left-footed drive from 16 yards past keeper Dan Hanford.

By then the Cumbrians were down to 10 men after centre-half Troy Archibald-Henville was sent off on 68 minutes after collecting his second yellow card in two minutes, for fouls on Danny Hylton...

Shrewsbury moved a step closer towards realising their promotion ambitions with a 2-0 home win over Oxford.

Liam Lawrence scored both goals for Shrewsbury who had to play more than half an hour a man short after Rhys Sharpe was sent off.

Shrewsbury made a flying start as they raced into a second-minute lead. Cameron Gayle was caught by Oxford captain Jake Wright and Shrewsbury skipper Lawrence clinically converted the resulting penalty.

James Collins then volleyed over from close range for Shrewsbury...

Bottom club Hartlepool chalked up a second successive away win, a 2-0 victory at Oxford, to give their survival hopes a massive boost.

A goal in each half brought them three points at the Kassam against a United outfit that had conceded only one goal in their previous five games.

It was a perfect follow-on for Ronie Moore's men after Saturday's 1-0 triumph at Morecambe.

Ryan Bird fired Pool in front in the 33rd minute, driving in the rebound after former U's player Jonathan Franks saw a fierce angled...

Plymouth remain in the League Two play-off places, just - thanks to Stevenage conceding a late equaliser at Cambridge - despite being held to a 0-0 draw by Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium.

In front of their biggest gate of the season, the U's extended their unbeaten run to five games, their best run of the campaign.

Argyle could count themselves unlucky as Reuben Reid's powerful header come back off the underside of the bar in first-half stoppage time, the ball bouncing down on the goalline but...

Oxford claimed a late 1-0 win away to 10-man Bury to take another step away from the League Two drop zone.

Bury had the better of a tight affair until defender Adam El-Abd was sent off in the 65th minute.

Four minutes later Danny Hylton's penalty was saved by Bury keeper Nick Pope, but substitute Callum O'Dowda struck on 85 minutes to make it four unbeaten for Oxford and send them eight points clear of the bottom two.

Bury had won their previous four and Chris Hussey curled a free-kick onto the roof...
