Ailing Orlando Pirates have made some encouraging early forays into the transfer market, but need a number of other quality signings in key areas if they are to return to the summit of the South African game.

The emergence of Bidvest Wits as a power in the Premier Soccer League, and the resurgence of Mamelodi Sundowns in the last four seasons, has relegated the once all-conquering Pirates and their Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs to also-rans in the PSL.

Neither has won a trophy in the...

Speaking to the official Pirates website after completing the move, Sangweni was grateful for the opportunity to play for the Bucs, before thanking his former employers for the chances they afforded him during his two-year...

Kjell Jonevret coach of Orlando Pirates during the Nedbank Cup Semi Final Orlando Pirates Media Day on 18 May 2017 at Rand Stadium.

What he had hoped would be a new beginning and a joyous occasion turned into a nightmare for Orlando Pirates' Swedish coach Kjell Jonevret, whose side was soundly beaten 4-1 in South Africa's FA Cup final by SuperSport United on Saturday.

As it happened, defeat for a side traditionally regarded as one of the giants of the South African game could have been even worse as SuperSport missed a penalty through New Zealand striker Jeremy Brockie, and also wasted numerous other opportunities.

Jonevret...

Happy Jele of Orlando Pirates is challenged by Bradley Grobler of Supersport United during the 2017 Nedbank Cup final.

South Africa international striker Bradley Grobler scored twice as SuperSport United hammered Orlando Pirates 4-1 in the Nedbank Cup final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday night.

New Zealand forward Jeremy Brockie and Kingston Nkhatha got the other goals, as SuperSport became the first side to retain South Africa's FA Cup in consecutive seasons for 35 years. They had also beaten Pirates last year with a 3-2 success in Polokwane.

It is another dismal result for Pirates, who...
