Orlando's Kaka tops MLS salary list, Bastian Schweinsteiger 7th at $5.4m

ESPN FC's Alejandro Moreno breaks down the best in MLS with his weekly awards.

Orlando City's Kaka remains the highest-paid player in Major League Soccer, according to data released by the players' union on Tuesday.

MLS and its clubs do not reveal salary information when announcing contracts, and the information is only confirmed by the union twice each year.

Kaka, who was injured in the opening minutes of the season, tops the 2017 list as he has every year since 2014 at $7.167 million in total compensation, just $52,000 more than the second-highest paid player, Toronto...

Orlando wins in vintage Kreis style in the home of club that discarded him

NYCFC made a late push but could not overcome the 2-goal deficit created from Orlando City's Cyle Larin.

The last time New York City FC lost a regular-season home game, its former head coach Jason Kreis was unemployed; his trajectory as one of the brightest young U.S. coaches seemingly derailed by his mismatch with New York City during its difficult expansion year.

But on Sunday, Kreis was back in the Bronx for the first time to watch his new team, Orlando City, end NYCFC's unbeaten home record stretching back to last June. In the process, he put down a marker not only for his team's ability to...

Nagbe, Giovinco have breakout performances; Union still winless

From Darlington Nagbe's stunner to Cyle Larin's brace, relive all the goals from Week 8 in MLS.
Sebastian Giovinco capped a brace with a brilliant free kick to lead Toronto FC past the Chicago Fire.
NYCFC made a late push but could not overcome the 2-goal deficit created from Orlando City's Cyle Larin.

With another round of Major League Soccer in the books, here's who fired and who failed this weekend:

Heroes

The frustration with Portland Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe that is so routinely expressed by Portland fans and Nagbe admirers alike is about one thing: His maddening unwillingness to use his ample gifts to take over games. Sure, the Timbers have Diego Valeri to do the bulk of the creative work, but Nagbe's combination of speed and technique screams for him to shine more in the final...

Cyle Larin brace helps Orlando past NYCFC; Sounders smash the Galaxy

NYCFC made a late push but could not overcome the 2-goal deficit created from Orlando City's Cyle Larin.

Cyle Larin scored twice to help Orlando City coach Jason Kreis notch a win against his former team, beating New York City 2-1 on Sunday to move atop the Eastern Conference standings.

Orlando City has won three straight and has a two-point lead over Columbus and the New York Red Bulls in the conference. The loss for NYCFC ended its 11-game unbeaten streak at home.

Larin scored from Scott Sutter's cross in the 31st minute and extended the lead to 2-0 with a headed goal 20 minutes later.
