NorthEast United sign Ghana star Asomah Gyan

NorthEast United FC have signed Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan for the 2019-20 ISL season. Gyan, Ghana's all-time leading scorer with 51 goals, will join NorthEast on the back of their most successful season, where they reached the play-offs for the very first time.

Gyan, 33, rose to fame with his performances on the international stage, particularly during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where his three goals helped Ghana to the quarterfinals, the team's best ever finish; he was eventually...

Bengaluru flex attacking muscle to turn frustrating night around

It could have been one of those nights for Bengaluru FC and Miku. One of those where nothing could go right. For 72 minutes, nothing had.

NorthEast United had come to the Kanteerava Stadium with a clear plan -- stay disciplined, stay deep, frustrate -- and it looked like it was going to pay off in the second leg of their ISL semi-final. With a 2-1 lead from the first leg, they were on course to knocking BFC off their pedestal and sealing a place in the ISL final.

BFC had tried everything, playing...

Job half done for gritty NorthEast, but injuries to star players major concern for second leg

"Tough game. They are a very good side. They made it really difficult for us in both games that we faced them. Tonight won't be any different, but we have to make sure we are smarter and take something from it."

These were the prescient words of Bengaluru FC goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu ahead of his team's first leg ISL semi-final away to NorthEast United. It proved to be a difficult night indeed, but in talking about NorthEast's maiden ISL win in five attempts against BFC, it makes it imperative...

Player ratings: Jose Leudo 9/10, Harmanjot Khabra 3/10 as NorthEast break BFC jinx

NorthEast United will take a 2-1 lead into the second leg of their semifinal with Bengaluru FC, thanks to Juan Mascia's injury-time penalty and a stunning opener from Redeem Tlang in the first half. NorthEast put in a stellar performance for the majority of the game, but will rue the away goal they conceded to a moment of brilliance from Sunil Chhetri, who set up Xisco Hernandez with a wonderful assist. Here are the player ratings for each team.

Juan Mascia's penalty in the 95th minute gave NorthEast United a dramatic, late win over Bengaluru FC, who seemed to have secured a hard-earned draw after substitute Xisco Hernandez's 82nd minute equaliser. It was Bengaluru's first ever defeat against NorthEast in the ISL.

The hosts earlier produced a superb first half of attacking football, and took the lead when Redeem Tlang found the net with a spectacular, curling effort in the 20th minute.

However, injuries to talismanic striker...
