Sacked Leicester player Adam Smith signs for Northampton

One of the three Leicester players sacked following the emergence of a sexually-explicit video in which racist language was used has been signed by League Two club Northampton.

Goalkeeper Adam Smith, 22, has signed a two-year deal with Northampton and becomes the first of the trio of ex-Foxes players to find a new team after he was axed along with James Pearson and Tom Hopper earlier this month.

Leicester terminated the contracts of Pearson, son of Leicester boss Nigel, and the two other players...

Wycombe will have to settle for the play-offs despite a last-gasp 3-2 victory at Northampton.

The Cobblers started the brightest with Lawson D'Ath testing Matt Ingram and top scorer Marc Richards heading over. But Wycombe, who had to win to have any chance of securing automatic promotion, went closest when Paul Hayes hit the bar.

Northampton enjoyed plenty of possession but it was Wycombe who broke the deadlock in the 36th minute when the hosts failed to clear and Aaron Holloway volleyed home from...

Burton stayed on course for the League Two title with a 3-1 win that ended Northampton's slender play-off hopes.

Lucas Akins gave them the perfect start and the rampant home team added further goals before the break through Phil Edwards and another from Akins.

Burton went in front in the fourth minute after punishing a blunder by Shwan Jalal.

The goalkeeper's clearance was charged down by Stuart Beavon and before the Cobblers could recover, the striker's low cross was finished by Akins.

Beavon caused...

Cheltenham's survival hopes suffered a blow against Northampton as they lost 2-0 at Sixfields.

Ivan Toney and substitute Marc Richards were both on target in the second half to leave the Robins a point off safety with two games left.

Former Cobblers striker Shaun Harrad had an early effort blocked while Lawson D'Ath shot wide at the other end.

Durrell Berry was off target for Cheltenham before the hosts began to create the better chances. Evan Horwood fired over from a free-kick, Diego De Girolamo twice...

Chris Wilder was denied a winning return to his old club by Oxford substitute Alex MacDonald who drilled home a 90th-minute equaliser to earn the U's a 1-1 draw.

It was a late blow to Northampton's diminishing hopes of reaching the play-offs and they had long been in the lead since Ivan Toney struck his ninth goal of the season to put the Cobblers in front with 38 minutes on the clock.

His well-struck long-range free-kick bounced in front of United keeper Jamie Ashdown to leave him floundering.

Toney...
