Honours even in Nigerian Clasico

Enyimba denied Kano Pillars top spot in the Nigeria Professional Football League, while relegation-threatened Kwara United produced a brilliant late comeback at Nasarawa United.

Kano Pillars 1-1 Enyimba
The Nigerian Clasico ended all square in Kano as Pillars' 100 percent home record this season was ended by Enyimba. There was always the fear factor surrounding the visitors in the build-up to the game; coach Paul Aigbogun enjoying a strong record at the Sani Abacha Stadium and the People's Elephant...

Aiteo Cup Final lays foundation for greatness

Let's be brutally honest: the Aiteo Cup final between Akwa United and Niger Tornadoes last night didn't make for great viewing, and that's putting it nicely.

Both sides struggled to string passes together, and the game overall was a poor advertisement for the quality of Nigerian football as it ended in a 0-0 draw after regulation time.

And as absorbing as the required penalty kicks were, they were just as abysmal as the game preceding them. A total of seven missed penalties between the two sides,...

Akwa United hold nerve to win Aiteo Cup

Akwa United have won the 2017 Aiteo Cup following a 3-2 penalty shootout win against Niger Tornadoes after a goalless draw in regulation time at the Agege Stadium in Lagos.

Gabriel Okechukwu's decisive penalty in sudden death secured Akwa a ticket to the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup -- a reward for their superiority and consistency throughout the competition -- along with the N25million prize-money.

Neither team impressed in regulation time; Abdullahi Wakili missing a big chance to put Tornadoes ahead...

Aiteo Cup holders FC Ifeanyi Ubah fail to overturn Niger Tornadoes

Aiteo Cup holders FC Ifeanyi Ubah defeated Niger Tornadoes 1-0 in Nnewi on Thursday in their semi-final second leg, but still lost out 4-3 on aggregate after their shock 4-2 defeat in the first leg.

Godin Obaje's 85th minute penalty wasn't enough for the holders, who threw away a two-goal lead in the first leg in Lokoja.

Tornadoes stymied their opponents for much of the contest to set up a final showdown with either Akwa United or Sunshine Stars, who meet in the second leg of their double-header...

Pyagbara stars in big Akwa win, champions crash out

Plateau United's hopes of a League and Cup 'double' went up in smoke on Sunday following a 4-2 aggregate defeat to Niger Tornadoes.

The League champions needed a strong performance after losing the first leg 2-0, but were already trailing by that scoreline at halftime. Ibrahim Babawo gave Tornadoes an 18th-minute lead, before winning the penalty which Isah Hussaini converted in the 41st minute.

Plateau pulled two goals back in the second half from the spot, but that wasn't enough to stop Tornadoes...
