Graham Carey's fourth goal of the season continued Plymouth's impressive start to the season as they beat Newport 1-0.

Playmaker Carey - a summer import from Ross County - continued his early season goal scoring streak with what proved to be the only goal of the game in the 42nd minute.

A quick throw-in from the left wing was teed up by Ryan Brunt and Carey smashed a first time rising drive into the far top corner, giving County keeper Joe Day no chance.

Argyle were good value for their lead, with Day...

League Two leaders Leyton Orient maintained their 100 per cent record with a 3-2 win at Newport.

Orient led 2-0 inside seven minutes when Paul McCallum and Jay Simpson both netted their third goals of the season.

But Newport levelled through Scott Boden and Mark Byrne, only for Dean Cox to tuck away a second-half winner.

McCallum out-jumped two defenders to beat Joe Day inside four minutes and Day was then swiftly beaten again by Simpson's thumping 35-yard effort.

Orient should have been even further...

Scott Fenwick grabbed the only goal as Hartlepool continued their winning start to the season by overcoming Newport in Sky Bet League Two.

Pools beat Morecambe and York either side of a Capital One Cup upset over Fleetwood, and continued the trend thanks to Fenwick's fine strike just after half-time at Victoria Park.

A drab first half passed with little incident, Newport's Mark Byrne coming closest when striking over the crossbar from 18 yards having been afforded too much space.

Mark Hughes' injury time goal rescued a point for Stevenage as they drew 2-2 at Newport.

Second-half goals from Scott Boden and Aaron Collins looked to have given Terry Butcher his first win as Exiles boss but Hughes' 91st minute strike earned Teddy Sheringham's side a point.

It came after Boro's 18-year-old striker Dipo Akinyemi had scored his first goal for the club in the first half.

The visitors took the lead after 39 minutes when County defender Kieran Parselle misjudged a hopeful punt over the...

Benik Afobe spared Wolves' blushes as they came from behind to beat battling Newport County 2-1 in their Capital One Cup first round tie at Molineux.

Afobe, who had also been on target in the opening day success at Blackburn, struck from the penalty spot in the 58th minute to seal a hard-earned success for the hosts.

Newport, who before the game announced their board of directors had stood down to hand interim control of the club to Newport County's Supporters Trust, had stunned Wolves when Scott Boden...
