NASL holdovers Cosmos, Miami FC, Armada cleared for U.S. Open Cup

The New York Cosmos, Miami FC and Jacksonville Armada will be allowed to field teams in the U.S. Open Cup this year after the U.S. Soccer Federation changed course on Friday.

The decision was taken by the USSF's Open Cup Committee, and the three teams will have until Monday, April 2, at 4 p.m. ET to confirm their participation.

The clubs are still members of the North American Soccer League, but the NASL is currently on hiatus having canceled the 2018 season after its application for a Division II...

New York Cosmos owner hits out at U.S. Soccer amid NASL troubles

Former USMNT forward Herculez Gomez dissects New York Cosmos owner Rocco Commisso's harsh words regarding the U.S. Soccer Federation.

New York Cosmos owner Rocco Commisso says he and the NASL are "full ahead litigating" the pending lawsuits against the U.S. Soccer Federation and its board members, despite recent legal setbacks and the fact that the league has canceled the 2018 season.

Commisso took part in a conference call with reporters on Thursday, and spoke on -- and hit out at -- a wide variety of topics. He criticized the USSF's overall stewardship of the game.

"Winning six games in 85 years in World Cup competition is nothing...

In the 77th minute, Evgenij Starikov had New York's best chance to equalise, but Maxim Tissot was able to get his head to the ball ahead of the diving Cosmos forward.

The Deltas, however, always...

NASL contends MLS's SUM tried to buy and 'terminate' New York Cosmos

The marketing arm of Major League Soccer made a bid to buy the North American Soccer League's New York Cosmos for $5 million with an aim to "terminate the franchise," new club owner Rocco Commisso has disclosed in legal documents.

The NASL's latest response in its ongoing antitrust lawsuit against the U.S. Soccer Federation included a declaration from Commisso in which he disclosed that as he pursued ownership of the Cosmos -- an organization that had laid off staff and stopped paying players,...

Pele: Clubs in Europe, Japan and Mexico wanted me after retirement

Pele was carried off the field following his final match as a player.

Brazil legend Pele has revealed he received offers from Europe, Japan and Mexico following his 1977 retirement with the New York Cosmos, but he decided "to retire on top."

Oct. 1 marked the 40th anniversary of Pele's retirement from football. He spent his last three years in activity with the Cosmos of the North American Soccer League after being lured from Santos, the only club he'd played for in his career.

On that date, Pele scored and played for both sides in a friendly between the Cosmos and...
