David Villa rallies NYCFC to win over Sounders; wild Orlando-Montreal draw

NYCFC had star man David Villa to thank for their three points against Seattle, as his brace turned around a 1-0 deficit.

David Villa scored his 50th and 51st career MLS goals to help New York City FC rally to beat the Seattle Sounders 2-1 at a rain-soaked Yankee Stadium on Saturday.

Christian Roldan gave the Sounders the lead with a fine finish in the 40th minute, just as the rainfall began to make play difficult.

Passes along the ground soon became impossible as the ball stopped in puddles, but Villa still managed to take control and hit the crossbar in first-half stoppage time.

The former Spain striker then equalized...

Columbus, Higuain take down Seattle; New York City FC, New England draw

Goals from Federico Higuain, Justin Meram and Ola Kamara helped blank the Seattle Sounders at MAPFRE Stadium.

Columbus Crew SC snapped Seattle Sounders two-game win streak, beating the defending MLS Cup champions 3-0 at Mapfre Stadium on Wednesday night.

Federico Higuain opened the scoring for the hosts in the 10th minute after some sloppy play out of the back from Seattle led to a turnover. Columbus's No. 10 picked up a pass from Hector Jimenez, took one touch and fired a low line drive past Stefan Frei.

And 10 minutes later, Higuain's teammate Justin Meram beat Frei in similar fashion,...

D.C.'s Jose Guillermo Ortiz among five players suspended by MLS

ESPN FC's Alejandro Moreno breaks down the best in MLS with his weekly awards from Cardiff, Wales.

Major League Soccer suspended D.C. United's Jose Guillermo Ortiz one game for simulation after the forward won a decisive penalty against Vancouver on Saturday, one of five bans issued by the league on Tuesday.

Ortiz went down under the slightest contact to earn a penalty on the hour mark, and Lamar Neagle scored the resulting spot kick to give D.C. a 1-0 win.

As a result, Ortiz will miss United's match on Wednesday against Orlando City. He was also handed an undisclosed fine for the second straight...

Galaxy win goals-rich Cali Clasico; early strike helps Sounders beat Timbers

Defense was optional in the California Clasico as LA Galaxy were on the winning end of a six-goal thriller at San Jose.

Giovani dos Santos scored twice to push his goals streak to four games and the Los Angeles Galaxy won their third straight, beating the San Jose Earthquakes 4-2 on Saturday night.

Dos Santos scored on a penalty kick in the 35th minute and had the only second-half goal in the 64th, heading home from a pinpoint Romain Alessandrini ball into the area. Dos Santos has six goals in the four-game streak.

Chris Wondolowski scored off Danny Hoesen's cross to the back post to give San Jose a 1-0 lead, before...
