East-leading NYCFC beat LA Galaxy as Toronto FC wins to keep pace

LA Galaxy's first trip to Yankee Stadium was a forgettable one, as David Villa pushed NYCFC past the visitors.

David Villa scored an early goal and New York City FC held off the LA Galaxy to win 1-0 at Yankee Stadium on Saturday.

LA keeper Clement Diop got a piece of Ronald Matarrita's shot, but it still fell for Villa to score from close range in the sixth minute.

Villa nearly added a second goal in the first half but Diop stretched to deny him with a good save.

NYCFC keeper Josh Saunders was called into action before halftime to push away Nigel de Jong's bicycle kick.

U.S. youth international goalkeeper Cody Cropper signed with the New England Revolution on Thursday.

Cropper, 23, has spent his entire club career in England after joining Ipswich Town in 2010.

He moved to Southampton two years later, though he never played for the Premier League side, before moving to MK Dons last year.

He took over the starting role for the Dons late in the season after an injury to David Martin, but the club released him earlier this summer after they were relegated to third-tier...

Bradley Wright-Phillips sets Red Bulls' MLS goals record in win over Impact

Ignacio Piatti and the Montreal Impact hit the road to face the New York Red Bulls in Week 23 of MLS action.

Bradley Wright-Phillips became the New York Red Bulls' all-time leading scorer in MLS with two goals in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Montreal Impact.

Montreal took the lead in the 22nd minute when Matteo Mancosu turned Red Bulls defender Ronald Zubar and passed for Ignacio Piatti to tap home.

But the lead lasted less than a minute as Sacha Kljestan found Wright-Phillips with a through ball, and the ball trickled over the line after Impact defenders converged on the Red Bulls striker.

U.S. Open Cup: Teal Bunbury (85') New England 3-1 Chicago

The New England Revolution are heading to the U.S. Open Cup final after beating the Chicago Fire 3-1 in the first semifinal on Tuesday.

Kei Kamara started the scoring for New England, converting from the penalty spot in the 16th minute after Rodrigo Ramos tripped Kelyn Rowe in the box.

Kamara continued to be dangerous throughout the opening 45 minutes, nearly deflecting a Matt Lampson clearance into the goal and twice playing Teal Bunbury into scoring positions for naught.

Sebastian Giovinco lit up the stage, scoring two stunning goals, before grabbing a hat-trick with a PK and giving Toronto three points.
