LA Galaxy's Giovani dos Santos wins top MLS player at Univision awards

Giovani dos Santos was honored for his play for the LA Galaxy this season.

Giovani dos Santos received the MLS Player of the Year Award at the Premios Univision Deportes on Sunday night.

Dos Santos earned the nod over fellow candidates David Villa of New York City FC -- the winner of the league's Most Valuable Player award -- and Toronto FC's Sebastian Giovinco.

The 27-year-old scored 14 goals and added 12 assists in 28 regular-season games for the Galaxy in 2016.

Club America books Liga MX final date with Tigres after seeing off Necaxa

MEXICO CITY -- After suffering two semifinal eliminations in the past two seasons, Club America will play a Liga MX final after defeating Necaxa 2-0 on Sunday.

Since Las Aguilas are on their way to Japan to take part in the FIFA Club World Cup, the second leg of the final against Tigres will take place on Christmas day, with the first happening on Dec. 22.

MEXICO CITY -- Oribe Peralta and William da Silva both scored as America defeated Necaxa 2-0 in the second leg of their 2016 Apertura Liguilla semifinal. The aggregate score ended up at 3-1 in favor of the Mexico City side after last Thursday's 1-1 draw.
