Manneh's move from Columbus in MLS to Liga MX will be one of the most intriguing this Clausura.

Following a very short winter break, the 2018 Clausura tournament is set to kick off this week. Along with the many recognizable heroes and villains around the league, a number of unfamiliar faces will step onto the field this season and make their debuts in the Mexican first division.

Several Liga MX teams were quite busy with recent transfers, and although they have until Jan. 31 to register foreign players, there is already a long list of noteworthy additions.

U.S. international Ventura Alvarado joins Necaxa from Santos Laguna

United States defender Ventura Alvarado has signed for Necaxa from Santos Laguna, with Mexican winger Jesus Isijara moving the other way.

Phoenix native Alvarado came through Club America's youth system ranks and had a previous stint with Necaxa back in 2013-14, when the club was in the second division.

Monterrey stay top, Xolos, Morelia and defending champs Chivas rise

Argentine import Gustavo Bou and Tijuana have suddenly found their form and risen all the way to third in the table.

The week that just concluded in Liga MX felt like the week of the visitor because there were several impressive away results obtained by several clubs. Chivas, Morelia, Leon and Tijuana's away wins were the main highlights of Week 8. Chivas, the league's defending champions, finally got their first win of the season and are ready to compete for a Liguilla place in the upcoming weeks.

Matias Fernandez released by Fiorentina, expected to join Necaxa

Fiorentina have released Matias Fernandez from his contract and the midfielder is expected to complete a move to Mexican outfit Club Necaxa in the coming days.

Fernandez, capped more than 70 times by Chile, moved to La Viola five years ago and went on to make 131 appearances but spent last season on loan at AC Milan after falling out of favour at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
