Napoli coach Rafael Benitez defends squad rotation

ESPN FC's Gab Marcotti discusses Juventus' consistent performances so far this season, despite the absence of some of their stars.

Napoli boss Rafael Benitez says his squad rotation was not to blame for the 1-0 defeat to Udinese, a result which leaves the Azzurri already six points behind league leaders Juventus and Roma.

Having named his first-choice team for Thursday's 3-1 Europa League win over Sparta Prague, the Spaniard made changes on Sunday. Marek Hamsik, Dries Mertens and Jose Callejon were all left on the bench with David Lopez making his debut and Michu also starting.

Benitez nevertheless believes his team should have...

Napoli slumped to their second straight Serie A loss as Udinese snatched three points from an uninspiring clash at the Stadio Friuli.

Defender Danilo poked home the only goal in the 70th minute to settle a match starved of quality.

Defeat left the visitors facing up to back-to-back 1-0 league defeats after last weekend's home loss to Chievo.

The first half was desperately lacking in excitement and Napoli had the only meaningful chance of it.

Michu did well to hold the ball up on the edge of the area...

Rafa Benitez: Aurelio De Laurentiis happy with Napoli victory

Things got off to a rocky start for Napoli in the Europa league after going down 1-nil at home in the first half, but Napoli ended up comfortably securing all three points.

Napoli coach Rafael Benitez said even club president Aurelio De Laurentiis was smiling after his side's return to winning ways in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

Under pressure after the Azzurri's worst start to a season in the past four years, including a disappointing elimination from the Champions League, Benitez chose to abandon his plans to rotate his team -- announced on the eve of the game -- sticking instead to his first-choice starting XI.

That was as big an indication as possible...

Things got off to a rocky start for Napoli in the Europa league after going down 1-nil at home in the first half, but Napoli ended up comfortably securing all three points.

Dries Mertens scored twice as Napoli came from behind to begin their UEFA Europa League Group I campaign with a 3-1 win over Sparta Prague.

The Serie A side had fallen behind to Josef Husbauer's early opener but a Gonzalo Higuain penalty pulled them level at the break before the Belgian striker took control in the second half.

The win will have come as some relief to Napoli, who had slipped to a surprise home defeat to Chievo in the domestic league on Sunday.

Meanwhile, defeat for the visitors brought...
