Le Bihan scores twice as Nice rally against Montpellier; Nantes beat Dijon

Mickael Le Bihan's double off the bench helped Nice edge Montpellier and move level on points with Ligue 1 leaders Monaco.

Nice moved level on points with Ligue 1 leaders Monaco after coming from behind to win 2-1 against Montpellier.

Montpellier made the trip across the south coast having won three of their last four matches and they made a great start on Friday night when Steve Mounie put them ahead after nine minutes.

But Nice are strong at home -- undefeated domestically this season at the Allianz Riviera -- and turned the tables in the second half through two goals from Mickael Le Bihan.

The striker, making a rare...

Mario Balotelli sent off but Nice still win to move second in Ligue 1

Mario Balotelli got his third red card for Nice, for what seems to be dissent after the ref ignored his claims for a foul.

Mario Balotelli was sent off for the third time this season in Ligue 1 as Nice leapfrogged Paris Saint-Germain into second place in the table after a 1-0 win at bottom club Lorient.

Balotelli, a free signing from Liverpool last summer, was shown a straight red card for dissent in the 68th minute.

From initial video replays, it seemed difficult to ascertain what Balotelli did wrong other than backing into Lorient defender Zargo Toure with his arms up as they challenged for a ball.

Dimitri Payet, Memphis Depay score as Marseille, Lyon win in Ligue 1

Dimitri Payet Marseille celebration
Dimitri Payet's goal helped Marseille to a 2-0 defeat of Guingamp.

Former West Ham forward Dimitri Payet scored on his first start for Marseille in a 2-0 victory against Guingamp in Ligue 1 on Wednesday.

Payet, making only his second appearance following his return to the French club since he requested to leave the Hammers during last month's transfer window, netted a free kick in the 76th minute.

Bafetimbi Gomis, on a season-long loan from Swansea, had scored the opening goal of the game for Marseille with a diving header midway through the first half.

Memphis Depay scored his first goal in France, and Mathieu Valbuena scored in style as Lyon dominated Nancy.

St Etienne close in on top four with Lyon defeat; Nantes' troubles deepen

St Etienne celeb
St Etienne are one point away from a top-four spot in Ligue 1.

Kevin Monnet-Paquet and Romain Hamouma fired St Etienne to within a point of Ligue 1's top four with a stormy 2-0 victory over nine-man Lyon.

Monnet-Paquet's ninth-minute strike got the home side off to a great start at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard and Hamouma doubled their advantage just 13 minutes later.

In the meantime, Corentin Tolisso had hit the post with a 13th-minute header as the visitors tried to repair the early damage, but Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes had to pull off good saves to prevent...

Marseille beat Lyon in Coupe de France as Dimitri Payet debuts

Dimitri Payet made his Marseille debut to loud applause on Tuesday.

New signing Dimitri Payet came off the bench in extra-time as Marseille edged through 2-1 against Lyon in their Coupe de France tie at the Stade Velodrome.

The 29-year-old playmaker completed a £25 million move back to his old club on Sunday after becoming unhappy at West Ham, and he heard his name chanted by the home support before kickoff.

Marseille took the lead after 25 minutes when Rod Fanni headed in a free kick from Maxime Lopez, but they saw defender Patrice Evra, another January signing,...
