Modric, Real Madrid making moves

The versatility of Croatia's jewel will be key if they're to get anything out of their opening match against Brazil.

It's another World Cup edition of Transfer Talk. The action in Brazil is stoking rumour mill flames. Here are the latest player and manager moves emerging for the summer transfer window.

Modric, Mou making moves

Croatia suffered a harsh 3-1 loss to Brazil in the opening game of the 2014 World Cup, but their squad had plenty of bright spots. Brightest of all, perhaps, was Luka Modric, who delivered plenty of quality service and always seemed to be around the ball for the Croats. Modric also had an impressive year with Real Madrid and helped los Blancos to their Champions League-winning finish to the season.

If we're to believe the latest reports in the Daily Star, however, Modric might be taking his show on the road from Madrid to Stamford Bridge. He'd be the return bait on a 27 million-pound bid from Real for Blues midfielder Ramires.

Since David Luiz's departure from Chelsea to Paris Saint-Germain, Jose Mourinho is also looking to shore up his defence. Two names surfacing in that effort are Real Madrid's Raphael Varane and Porto's Eliaquim Mangala.

Wiedersehen to Adler

Sunderland looks set to snap up Hamburg No. 1 Rene Adler, reports The Mirror. Adler helped Hamburg beat the Bundesliga drop this season, and Gus Poyet looks like he wants someone to push Vito Mannone for the job between the posts for the Black Cats. Poyet is rumoured to be seeking a deal in the neighborhood of 2.5 million pounds.

Tottenham Poch-ing Alvarez

We mentioned that Tottenham's new head man, Mauricio Pochettino, was on a spending spree the other day. Looks like that's still the case, as The Mirror is reporting that the latest Pochettino target, Inter Milan's Ricky Alvarez, is cleared to leave San Siro this summer if the deal can be worked out. That would allow the 26-year-old Argentine to join forces with his countryman at White Hart Lane.

The reports say Alvarez would cost about 7 million pounds and Tottenham aren't the only suitors. Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund have also shown interest.

Aubameyang Roma-ing

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang might be taking his talents to AS Roma next season, reports Bild. Gazzetta dello Sport is reporting that a 25 million euro offer is in the works for the native of Gabon. Rudi Garica is gearing up for a Champions League run next season, and he'll need to add depth to help his players make it through the extra games they'll play. The striker would be an interesting addition to the attacking mix for Roma and a fine complement to Mattia Destro and Francesco Totti.
