Stephane Sessegnon was a menace to the Stoke defence all afternoon long.
Stephane Sessegnon spent five years in England but now returns to Ligue 1.

Montpellier signed free agent midfielder Stephane Sessegnon to a two-year contract on Tuesday.

Sessegnon, 32, had been linked to a move to Burnley, but instead returns to Ligue 1 for the first time since he left Paris Saint-Germain in 2011.

The Benin international played with PSG for three seasons before joining Sunderland, and after two years...

Montpellier suffered a second successive Ligue 1 defeat as Metz beat them 1-0 at the Stade de La Mosson.

Frederic Hantz's hosts were trounced 5-1 on their travels to Lyon in midweek - and back in front of their own supporters, they had no answer either to a goal from Metz's prolific striker Mevlut Erdinc in first-half injury time.

Erdinc scored from the penalty spot, after a foul by home captain Hilton, for his sixth goal in as many matches so far this campaign.

Nabil Fekir and Corentin Tolisso both scored twice as Lyon crushed 10-man Montpellier 5-1.

The visitors took a surprise lead in the third minute when Morgan Sanson fired home, but holding on was made a lot more difficult when Morgan Poaty was sent off for a poor challenge on Tolisso.

Fekir was fouled in the penalty area in the 36th minute and picked himself up to equalise, and the turnaround was complete before half-time when Tolisso headed home a Maciej Rybus corner.

Fekir scored his second goal...

Ryad Boudebouz put Montpellier ahead from the penalty spot after 66 minutes when Malang Sarr was adjudged to have handled in the area.

But Younes Belhanda, who had struck a post in the first half, levelled when he converted substitute Anastasios Donis' pass five minutes from time.

Nice were without new signing Mario Balotelli who scored twice on his Ligue 1 debut against Marseille, but was left out...

Guingamp remained unbeaten in Ligue 1 this season but will have been frustrated not to take all three points against Montpellier after a 1-1 draw.

Sloan Privat went close twice in three minutes for Guingamp but Montpellier broke away to take a 10th-minute lead when Ryad Boudebouz led a quick breakaway and sent Morgan Sanson clear to finish.

The hosts drew level in the 36th minute when Yannis Salibur and Thibault Giresse combined well to set up Marcus Coco to score. It was Guingamp's seventh shot...
