Montpellier coach Rolland Courbis believes his side will determine which clubs qualify for Europe from Ligue 1 this season.

A 1-0 defeat at lowly Toulouse in their previous game has left Montpellier eight points adrift of fourth-placed Marseille with just six games remaining, but with games against St Etienne, Paris St Germain and Bordeaux still to come.

"The game at Toulouse is not an easy match to analyse, especially given the fact that we've played three matches in the space of a week, two of which...

Montpellier's Morgan Sanson out six months with ruptured knee ligament

Montpellier's Morgan Sanson will be sidelined for the next sit months.

Montpellier midfielder Morgan Sanson will be out of action for six months after rupturing a knee ligament.

The 20-year-old France Under-21 international, who has made 33 appearances for La Paillade this season, was withdrawn injured only 51 minutes into his side's 1-0 defeat at Toulouse on Sunday.

The Ligue 1 club announced on their official website that medical tests had revealed a rupture to the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee, ruling him out for a minimum of six months after an operation.

Toulouse boosted their bid to beat the Ligue 1 drop by claiming a second consecutive home win with a 1-0 victory over Montpellier.

Oscar Trejo claimed the vital goal just before half-time as Toulouse built on their victory over Bordeaux three weeks ago to draw level with Reims and Lorient on 35 points from 32 games.

Montpellier had an early opportunity to test Ali Ahamada in the Toulouse goal but Anthony Mounier's free-kick from a dangerous position was weak and the goalkeeper gathered easily.

Lucas Barrios missed a penalty for Montpellier.

Monaco's Champions League bid suffered a setback as they were held to a goalless draw at home to Montpellier on Tuesday night.

The hosts could only close the gap to third-placed Marseille to two points following their second straight draw.

Indeed, it could have been even worse for Monaco, with Lucas Barrios missing a penalty for Montpellier early in the second half.

Following a quiet opening 20 minutes, during which neither side managed to muster a noteworthy effort at goal, Bryan Dabo went close...

Two quick-fire second-half penalties saw Montpellier come from behind to beat Bastia 3-1 in their Ligue 1 clash on Saturday night.

Lucas Barrios and Anthony Mounier both struck from the spot within two minutes to cancel out Giovanni Sio's opener - with Morgan Sanson adding a third for the hosts in injury-time.

The win keeps Montpellier in with an outside chance of finishing in a place that would lead to European football next season while Bastia remain five points clear of the relegation zone.
