Yoann Gourcuff Montpellier deal is unlikely, says president Louis Nicollin

Yoann Gourcuff's injuries meant he could not build on the promise shown in helping Bordeaux to the 2008-09 Ligue 1 title.

Montpellier president Louis Nicollin is pessimistic about his club's chances of signing Yoann Gourcuff.

Gourcuff, 29, is out of contract after leaving Lyon in June, and has been keeping himself fit while he decides which step to take next.

Two of the midfielder's former clubs, Rennes and Bordeaux, have been strongly linked with but the France international, who struggled badly with injury problems at Lyon after joining the club in 2009.

Gourcuff has reportedly said he would be tempted to join...

Montpellier coach Rolland Courbis blasts Ligue 1 finances

The ESPN FC crew respond to the reports that Angel Di Maria may move to PSG this summer.

Montpellier coach Rolland Courbis has told AFP French football is "going straight to the cemetery" with its finances in ever-worsening state.

French TV channels have signed a record rights deal to broadcast the professional game domestically, paying €748.5 million for the period of 2016-2020.

Though a significant improvement on the €607 million TV paid for the previous four-year period, the agreement is still dwarfed by that which broadcasters have struck with the Premier League.

Marseille deny interest in signing Montpellier midfielder Bryan Dabo

Marseille have denied making an offer for Dabo.

Montpellier claim Marseille have made a bid for Bryan Dabo -- but OM insist they are not targeting the midfielder.

Marseille missed out on Idrissa Gueye, who opted to join Aston Villa, and look likely to lose the race for Caen's N'Golo Kante to Leicester.

Reports suggest OM have now turned their attention to 23-year-old Dabo, but they have denied making an offer for the Montpellier youth academy product.

Deal to preserve Monaco tax privileges declared illegal

ESPN FC's Gab Marcotti responds to Geoffrey Kondogbia's move to Inter Milan, where he believes Kondogbia was as good as Paul Pogba when he moved to Monaco.

The deal that would have allowed Monaco to keep their privileged tax status within French football has been declared illegal following a case brought by several clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain.

The Ligue 1 champions joined rivals Marseille, Montpellier, Lorient, Lille, Caen and Bordeaux in complaining to the State Council, France's highest court for administrative matters, that the agreement between the French Football League (LFP) and Monaco, struck in January 2014, should not be allowed to...
