Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Forshaw signs new four-year contract

Adam Forshaw will stay with Boro through 2020.

Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Forshaw has committed his future to the club after signing a new four-year contract.

The 24-year-old has joined Ben Gibson, George Friend and Daniel Ayala in putting pen to paper on a fresh deal in the wake of promotion to the Premier League.

Forshaw told the club's official website: "I'm delighted. I've enjoyed my time at the club since I've been here. My teammates, the staff, the fans, everyone around the area has been really supportive.

Why the Premier League's promoted teams have started strong

Turning the page from off-the-field strife, Hull City finds itself in surprising position near the top of the table.
Turning the page from off-the-field strife, Hull City finds itself in surprising position near the top of the table.

After a Premier League season in which Leicester City became one of the most unlikely winners in history, the underdog trend has continued into the new campaign. Over the first two weeks, the promoted teams have all impressed, with Burnley collecting three points, Middlesbrough four and Hull City -- tipped rock bottom by most pundits -- six. Only one newcomer, Norwich, got relegated last season. Considering the solid start, one wonders whether the two-out of-three rate can be emulated, or even bettered, this time.

Some of the new arrivals are better equipped than others. Hull have done well to even get a team out at all, having kicked off the season with 13 fit senior players. Yet resources and results do not always correlate in the Premier League. Below follows an examination of the approaches of the three teams and what the underlying numbers tell us so far.

Middlesbrough's Jordan Rhodes in line for EFL Cup opportunity

Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka praises his squad following Middlesbrough's win in the Tees-Wear derby.

Middlesbrough striker Jordan Rhodes could be handed the chance to stake his claim for a regular place in Aitor Karanka's starting line-up in Wednesday night's EFL Cup tie at Fulham.

Rhodes, a £9 million signing from Blackburn Rovers in January, has had to watch on from the sidelines as newly promoted Boro have made an unbeaten start in the Premier League, and reports emerged last week that he could be on his way out of the club.

He was an unused substitute in the opening-day 1-1 draw against...

Sunderland manager David Moyes: Things will not change overnight

Sunderland boss David Moyes speaks after losing to Middlesbrough in the Tees-Wear derby.

Sunderland manager David Moyes has said he is not being defeatist by saying the club face another Premier League relegation fight after just two games of the season.

His comments, following Sunday's 2-1 home derby defeat to Middlesbrough, sparked dismay from some fans who had hoped for better following four successive battles to preserve top-flight status.

Moyes has high hopes of changing that trend and steering Sunderland into calmer waters -- but he knows there is no quick fix.
