Metz were relegated straight back to Ligue 2 on Saturday as they suffered a crushing 4-0 defeat to Lorient.

Last season's second-tier champions needed to win all three of their remaining games to have any chance of staying up but were simply blown away by Lorient who are now five points clear of the drop zone with two games remaining.

Mehdi Mostefa opened the scoring and Romain Philippoteaux, Lamine Kone and Jordan Ayew added to the tally.

It was Metz who had the first chance in the third minute when...

Andre-Pierre Gignac scored twice as Marseille moved up to fourth.

Andre-Pierre Gignac netted a brace as Marseille ended a four-match losing streak to see off lowly Metz 2-0 in Friday's night's Ligue 1 clash at Stade Saint-Symphorien.

The France striker struck the opener seven minutes before the break and added a second just after the hour mark as Marcelo Bielsa's men claimed all three points.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Javier Pastore believes his team will be able to secure the Ligue 1 title with four matches remaining.

Paris Saint-Germain emphasised they have hit form at just the right time after beating Metz 3-1 to move three points clear at the top of Ligue 1.

First-half goals from Marco Verratti and Edinson Cavani set PSG on their way to a fifth successive league win and then Gregory van der Wiel wrapped up the points with a late third after Modibo Maiga had pulled a goal back for Metz.

The victory lifts PSG back clear of Lyon at the summit and, with only four games left, another step closer to a third-consecutive...
