Lens' stay in Ligue 1 looks even more precarious after they were beaten 3-1 by relegation rivals Metz.

The division's bottom side were desperate to pick up their seventh league victory this season, but goals from Florent Malouda, Bouna Sarr and Modibo Maiga saw Metz to victory. Aristote Madiani netted a late consolation.

Despite the win, Metz remain in trouble, one off the bottom of the table and eight points from safety with six games left.

Lens were given a warning as early as the seventh minute when...

Metz gave themselves at least some hope of staying in Ligue 1 as Modibo Maiga's hat-trick earned them victory over relegation rivals Toulouse.

Wissam Ben Yedder gave Toulouse a 21st-minute lead but Maiga - on loan from West Ham - quickly equalised, put Metz ahead before half-time and completed his treble early in the second period.

Toulouse then had Marcel Tisserand sent off and could only manage a late consolation from Tongo Doumbia.

Ahmed Kashi shot wide for Metz before Ben Yedder opened the scoring...

Basement boys Metz passed up the chance to collect some much-needed points as they held Caen to a goalless draw at the Stade Michel d'Ornano on Saturday night.

With 11 points now separating the bottom side from Ligue 1 safety, the visitors - who are winless in their last 18 league games now - were on top for a period during the second half but failed to turn their chances into goals.

While Patrice Garande's hosts could have stolen all three points at the death had Metz goalkeeper Anthony Mfa Mezui...

St Etienne closed back to within a point of fourth-placed Monaco as they eased to a 3-2 win away to rock-bottom Metz.

Goals from Max Gradel, Mevlut Erding and Yohan Mollo - all three assisted by Romain Hamouma - allowed St Etienne to immediately close the gap opened up by Monaco when they beat Bastia 3-0 on Friday evening.

After Gradel and Erding struck late in the first half, Metz halved the deficit through Kevin Lejeune, but Mollo gave St Etienne the breathing space they needed before Yeni N'Gbakoto's...

Ntep goal enough for win

Paul-Georges Ntep's first-half strike was enough to give Rennes back-to-back wins with a 1-0 triumph over Ligue 1's bottom side Metz.

Ntep struck after just 20 minutes and that was enough for the hosts, although Metz will feel hard done by after hitting both a post and the crossbar at the Stade de la Route de Lorient.

The win takes Rennes, who ended a 10-game winless streak with a 1-0 win over Lens last week, up to eighth, while Metz are now nine points off safety and in danger of being completely...
