Kosovo call-up rules Besart Berisha out of Brisbane-Melbourne match

Melbourne Victory striker Besart Berisha
Capped by Albania 17 times, Besart Berisha will now represent Kosovo in World Cup qualifying.

Striker Besart Berisha has stunned Melbourne Victory in the run-in to the A-League finals by answering an international call from his country of birth, Kosovo.

Berisha will head to Europe to represent the Balkan country next month in a World Cup qualifier against fellow minnows Iceland, leaving Victory without his services for a date against former club Brisbane.

"For me, it's a very exciting time ... I was born there and they need my help so I think it's time to go," Berisha said on Thursday.

Jason Geria admits his form not good enough for Socceroos call-up

Melbourne Victory's Jason Geria
Jason Geria was brave enough to admit that his club form has been below par this season.

Defender Jason Geria has admitted that his form for Melbourne Victory in the A-League this season is not good enough for him to earn a Soccceroos call-up.

The Victory right-back has steadily improved his form this season, helping the A-League force push Sydney FC for the title.

Geria was called up for two qualifiers in March last year off the back of his club form and then debuted in a friendly match with Greece in June.

There's also a neon-lighted vacant sign over the right-back position.

Mile Jedinak returns for Aston Villa to give Socceroos boost

Mile Jedinak
Mile Jedinak started for Aston Villa against Newcastle United.

The Socceroos' World Cup qualification campaign has been bolstered by captain Mile Jedinak's recovery from a groin injury to play his first club game in more than a month.

Jedinak, 32, started in struggling Aston Villa's English Championship 2-0 loss to Newcastle United on Monday.

He played 71 minutes, earning the praise of coach Steve Bruce in a defensive midfield role.

"He gives our defenders protection, and he's a man in there," Bruce said.

"We have missed that, especially away from home.

James Troisi deserves Socceroos recall after A-League form - Kevin Muscat

The Victory have stretched their undefeated run against the Mariners to 11 games after a 3-0 win in Gosford.

As much as Kevin Muscat would love to take James Troisi's sweet left boot to Brisbane in the A-League next month, the Melbourne Victory coach would be just as delighted if he's away with the Australian national side.

And the ex-English league defender would hardly be surprised, warning Troisi will only keep getting better.

If there was ever a case for Socceroos' coach Ange Postecoglou to recall his Asian Cup hero, it was his A-League showing against Central Coast on Sunday.
