African champions Mamelodi Sundowns have released veteran former Bafana Bafana midfielder Teko Modise, the club confirmed in a statement.

Modise, 34, has been a bit-part player for the Brazilians in recent seasons as Hlompho Kekana and Tiyani Mabunda hold down the central midfield positions, and the player and club have reached a mutual agreement to part ways.

He leaves Sundowns as a free agent after a one-year option on his contract was not renewed having spent six-and-a-half years with the club...

USM Alger celebrate their goal against Zamalek

USM Alger, Libya's Al Ahli Tripoli, Etoile du Sahel and Zanaco of Zambia all kept on course for the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League with positive results on Wednesday, but the classic clash between Esperance and holders Mamelodi Sundowns ended goalless.

French-born defender Reda Bellahcene scored one and set up the other for Abderrahmane Meziane Bentahar as USM Alger beat last year's runners-up Zamalek 2-0 to go top of Group B. The victory in Algiers puts USMA on seven points, ahead on...

Hlompho Kekana of Mamelodi Sundowns during the Absa Premiership 2016/17 match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Bloemfontein Celtic at Lucas Moripe Stadium, Atteridgeville South Africa.

Mamelodi Sundowns skipper Hlompho Kekana maintains his side are the "team to beat" in the African Champions League this season despite the patchy start to the defence of their title.

Sundowns scraped past KCCA in the first round at the start of their campaign, and have just a single win from their three group games so far, including a first ever home defeat in the competition at the hands of Tunisian side Esperance.

The Pretoria-based club are now in Tunis for the return fixture against the 2011...

No Billiat for Sundowns, but others return

Mamelodi Sundowns will once again be without talisman Khama Billiat for their African Champions League clash with Esperance on Wednesday, but coach Pitso Mosimane has warned his side against getting too "emotional" in what is being billed by the club's own website as a grudge match.

Esperance grabbed a last-minute winner in a 2-1 victory in Pretoria a fortnight ago, inflicting a first ever home defeat in the Champions League on Sundowns.

It has placed the holders' qualification for the quarterfinals...

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango says the loss of the club's domestic league title to Bidvest Wits has fired the South African club up for more success in the CAF Champions League.

Sundowns host Tunisian side Esperance ST in their latest African Champions League Group C clash in Pretoria on Friday evening, an opportunity for both clubs to take a firm grip on the pool.

They head the group with four points each, followed by Ethiopian club St George (two points) and surprise strugglers AS...
