Patosi double leads stunning City fightback at Pirates

Ayanda Patosi scored two excellent second-half goals as Cape Town City rescued a point with a 2-2 draw at Orlando Pirates in a thrilling Absa Premiership clash at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday.

Pirates appeared to be cruising when they led 2-0 early thanks to goals from Zambia international Augustine Mulenga and Innocent Maela, but allowed City back into the game in the second and Patosi punished the home side.

City were missing head coach Benni McCarthy, who stayed in Cape Town after...

Time for Mahlambi to go from prospect to star player

Phakamani Mahlambi's premature return from Egyptian giants Al Ahly is both a blessing and a curse for the player, but he is undoubtedly a quality performer who can boost the chances of his club and country.

Mahlambi netted on his Mamelodi Sundowns debut against AmaZulu on Sunday, making a promising return from what must have felt at times like an exile in Egypt.

He was snapped up by Ahly from then South African league champions Bidvest Wits at the start of the last season, but was hardly used in...

Vilakazi rescues late point for Sundowns at AmaZulu

Sibusiso Vilakazi spared the blushes of Mamelodi Sundowns with a late equaliser as the defending Absa Premiership champions played to a thrilling 3-3 draw with AmaZulu at the King Zwelithini Stadium in KwaMashu on Sunday.

Sundowns looked to be headed for defeat when their contracted striker Bonginkosi Ntuli netted in his first game back at AmaZulu on loan, but Vilakazi showed good awareness to poke home the equaliser in a fixture that provided a feast of goals.

There was also a debut goal for Phakamani...

Toni Silva goes from hero to villain for Mamelodi Sundowns in MTN8 defeat

Guinea-Bissau international Toni Silva went from hero to villain as Mamelodi Sundowns were dumped out of a second cup competition in a week with a penalty shootout loss to Cape Town City in the semi final of the MTN8.

Silva scored his first goal for Sundowns to hand them a 1-0 victory in the second leg, which forced the game into a shoot-out.

However, he then saw his penalty saved by City's Dutch goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh, which, coupled with a miss by Anthony Laffor, saw City claim the 4-2...

Sundowns secure deadline day signing of Mahlambi

Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the capture of South Africa international Phakamani Mahlambi, ending their long chase of the Al Ahly player.

Mahlambi arrives at Chloorkop after 12 months in Cairo that proved unsuccessful for the player and a massive financial loss for the club following his move from Bidvest Wits at the start of last season.

Mahlambi, seen as one of the brightest young talents in South African football, has signed a five-year contract that will prove a windfall for Wits as well.
