Protestors confront Maccabi Haifa

A football match in Austria between Israeli team Maccabi Haifa and French side Lille has been disrupted by pro-Palestinian protesters.

Salzburg police said the pre-season friendly in the town of Bischofshofen was interrupted shortly before the end when protesters waving Palestinian flags stormed the pitch and confronted Maccabi players.

The Jerusalem Post reported that punches were thrown as security were slow to react before escorting the protestors out of the stadium.

Police said nobody was injured....

Ruben Rayos apology for horror tackle

Maccabi Haifa's Ruben Rayos has publicly apologised for a horrific double-footed tackle on Rafi Dahan which left the Bnei Yehuda defensive midfielder with a badly broken leg on Sunday.

Rayos, 27, went in high on his opponent in the 84th minute of the side's 2-2 draw at the weekend and was shown a straight red card, while 24-year-old Dahan was helped from the pitch by medical staff in agony.

Israeli Dahan -- who has been forced to postpone his wedding as a result of the injury -- slammed Rayos'...

Face-saving win for Haifa

Maccabi Haifa salvaged a small amount of pride from their unsuccessful Europa League Group L campaign as they claimed their first win in the dead-rubber match against Shakhter Karagandy.

Shoval Gozlan's second-half header and Shimon Abuhatzira's strike denied Shakhter their first Europa League away win while claiming their only success of the group stages, which saw AZ Alkmaar and PAOK Salonika progress to the round of 32.

Roger Canas opened the scoring from the penalty spot for Shakhter in the 43rd...

All to play for in final fixtures

The Europa League group stages come to an end on Thursday with plenty still to play for across the 12 pools.

After five games some sides are already home and dry, but numerous issues remain unresolved elsewhere, most notably in Group A.

Valencia are through as group winners, but behind them Swansea and Kuban Krasnodar are thrashing it out for second.

The Swans are the current incumbents and if they go to St Gallen and match Kuban's result in Spain, they will progress.

If they lose, a win and three-goal...
