Why Yoann Gourcuff hasn't lived up to the hype of being the next Zidane

Yoann Gourcuff's career never took off the way most expected it to. Now, the Lyon man is showing signs of revival.

First, the goal. It's not the most beautiful ever but in its execution, it is wonderful. The speed, the precision, the balance, the awareness of where the goal is and where the opponents are and the movement were perfect and breathtaking, especially at that level and especially in the biggest game of the season so far in France. Lyon ended Marseille's eight-match winning run in Ligue 1 with a 1-0 triumph at the Stade de Gerland on Sunday night.

l'OM, who have won eight of their first 11 matches, are four points clear of second-placed Paris St Germain at the top but Lyon are now up to third and five points off first place themselves.

Lyon made a positive start and Gourcuff looked to test the Marseille...

Lyon made full use of their unexpected home advantage as they routed Montpellier 5-1 to move up to fourth place in Ligue 1.

Yoann Gourcuff scored twice, either side of Nabil Fekir's strike, while late goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Steed Malbranque turned it into a thrashing.

Siaka Tiene had scored for Montpellier early in the second half, but his team were already three down at the time.

The match had been scheduled to be played in Montpellier, but was switched to Lyon last week after severe flooding...

Why Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas might back PSG on financial fair play

UEFA is considering changes to its financial fair play regulations, which could cause problems for many of Europe's top clubs.

"I am not jealous of the financial means PSG and Monaco have, even if they now have to respect financial fair play. The rules have to be applied by the letter, otherwise UEFA will not be credible." -- Jean-Michel Aulas, Lyon chairman and owner, March 15

"I will be alongside the people from PSG, and we are going to try and ensure that they get what they want regarding changes of regulations in financial fair play." -- Aulas, Oct. 12

We all know by now that football is like politics. Your enemies can...
