Juventus win appeal over Chelsea compensation for Adrian Mutu

Adrian Mutu scored 10 goals in 33 appearances for Juventus.
Adrian Mutu signed for Juventus in 2005 after he was released by Chelsea.

Juventus have claimed they will not have to pay Chelsea compensation in the Adrian Mutu case after having an appeal upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Governing body FIFA ruled in 2013 that Juventus and Livorno had to contribute some of the 14 million pounds owed by Mutu to Chelsea for a breach of contract.

The London club released Mutu in 2004 following the Romanian striker's positive drug test and sought compensation, which they were granted by FIFA in 2013.

Livorno's Paulinho tracked by Stoke

Paulinho scored 15 Serie A goals in 35 matches for Livorno last season.

Stoke City are one of a number of English sides interested in Livorno striker Paulinho, according to the Italian club's president.

Mark Hughes' side have already been busy in the transfer market this summer, completing deals to sign Mame Biram Diouf, Dionatan Teixeira, Phil Bardsley and Steve Sidwell.

Livorno sack Di Carlo, re-hire Nicola

Relegation-threatened Livorno have sacked Domenico Di Carlo after just 88 days in charge and re-appointed Davide Nicola, who was axed from the post in January.

Livorno made the decision just hours after a 3-0 defeat at AC Milan on Saturday, which leaves them three points from safety.

Di Carlo, a former Livorno player, had seen his side take just one point from their previous six games.

"Livorno officially announce...

Livorno part company with Nicola

Livorno have parted company with their coach Davide Nicola in the wake of a 3-0 defeat at home to Parma -- their fourth loss in a row.

The Tuscan club announced Nicola's departure on Monday with president Aldo Spinelli saying yet again that he too will be leaving at the end of the season. It is not the first time Spinelli has threatened to sell the club that was promoted to the top flight last season.

"I like Davide a lot, but recently he has committed a few mistakes," Spinelli said...

Giuseppe Rossi to visit knee specialist

Giuseppe Rossi will see a knee specialist later this week to confirm the extent of the injury he sustained in a challenge by Leandro Rinaudo during Fiorentina’s 1-0 win over Livorno.

Initial reports said the Italy international forward had suffered a badly sprained knee, before a club statement confirmed he has suffered a sprain in his right knee -- the joint in which he has had two operations on to reconstruct cruciate ligaments -- after undergoing tests on Monday.

The statement...
