The Italian football federation has set up a commission to investigate whether Lazio should share the 1914-15 Serie A title with Genoa for the season that was interrupted by World War I, according to a report.

More than 30,000 Lazio supporters signed a petition calling for the probe in the hopes that the club could be crowned Italian champions for a third time, pulling them level with neighbours and arch-rivals AS Roma on three Italian titles, Reuters reports.

Stefano Mauri says Lazio chief Claudio Lotito promised him coaching role

ESPN FC's Gab Marcotti breaks down the latest speculation surrounding the motives for Marcelo Bielsa's resignation at Lazio.
Stefano Mauri
Stefano Mauri first joined the club in 2006.

Stefano Mauri says he is keen to find out why he has not been offered a coaching role after being released by Lazio, with club president Claudio Lotito reneging on a promise he had made.

Mauri, 36, was not given a new contract by the Biancocelesti at the end of the season but the midfielder, who insists he will carry on playing for another year or so, says it is the way in which his 10-year spell with the club came to such an end that disappoints him.

"I need to meet with the president to clear...
