Lazio sign ex-Juventus defender Martin Caceres from Hellas Verona

Martin Caceras joined Hellas Verona last August.

Lazio have signed former Juventus and Southampton defender Martin Caceres from Hellas Verona.

The 30-year-old Uruguayan only arrived at Verona last August but their Serie A rivals have now recruited the centre-back and handed him a one-year contract.

A statement published on Lazio's official website on Monday announced the transfer.

Caceres joined Verona after being released following half a season at Southampton, where he made only one appearance.

Ciro Immobile's red card on Monday has angered many Lazio supporters.

Lazio head of communications Arturo Diaconale says many of his club's fans have called on him to pull the team out of Serie A due to recent incidents which have gone against them.

The red card shown to Ciro Immobile during the 3-1 defeat at home to Torino on Monday night incensed Lazio sporting director Igli Tare and coach Simone Inzaghi, who both criticised the referee and the video assistant referee for what they said was a mistake.

Ciro Immobile was sent off in Lazio's match against Torino for a headbutt on Nicolas Burdisso.

Lazio players, coaches and directors were claiming scandal after a penalty shout for handball was waved off and Ciro Immobile was sent off minutes later for a headbutt in a 3-1 loss to Torino.

The hosts had Immobile sent off for violent conduct on the stroke of half-time, and Torino made the most of their one-man advantage to secure their first away win against Lazio for 24 years.
