Las Palmas boss Paco Herrera handed new contract

Las Palmas have rewarded coach Paco Herrera with a new contract following the club's promotion to the Primera Division.

The 61-year-old joined Las Palmas last summer and guided the team from the Canary Islands back into the top flight after an absence of 13 years.

Herrera's previous deal was set to expire this summer.

Man City star David Silva open to future La Liga return

Netherlands head coach Guus Hiddink admits Spain will be looking for revenge when the two sides meet in Amsterdam on Tuesday.

David Silva says he is happy at Manchester City but could see himself returning to La Liga later in his career, suggesting former side Valencia and hometown club Las Palmas as potential destinations.

Silva joined City from Valencia for €32 million in 2010, and extended his contract until 2019 last summer.

Cordoba promoted with last-gasp goal

GRAN CANARIA, Spain -- Cordoba earned promotion to Spain's first division for the first time since 1972 after scoring a last-gasp goal for a 1-1 draw at Las Palmas on Sunday following a premature pitch invasion by home fans.

With Las Palmas winning 1-0, and less than two minutes of stoppage time left, several dozen home fans invaded the pitch which forced the game to be delayed for around 10 minutes.
