River Plate's game plan gives them crucial first-leg win over Lanus

River Plate beat Lanus 1-0 in the first-leg of their all-Argentine Copa Libertadores semifinal.
Ignacio Scocco's goal in the 82nd minute was all River Plate would need to defeat Lanus.

Eight teams remain. By next Thursday there will only be four, and come the end of November the continent will have its champion, just in time to go to the Arab Emirates and take part in the Club World Cup.

By pure coincidence, there is a delightful symmetry about the quarterfinals. Argentina and Brazil each provide...

Man of the match in Argentina's Supercopa presented with BBQ

Saturday evening saw Lanus crowned Supercopa champions when they saw off River Plate in the game that pits the champions of the Primera Division against the winners of the Copa Argentina.

After opening the scoring in the latter stages, Lanus forward Lautaro Acosta ended up taking the man of the match "honours" as his side ran out 3-0 winners.

The 28-year-old was presented with a shiny new BBQ grill for all his hard work.
