Chiefs face defensive worries ahead of season's end

Kaizer Chiefs will likely be without three defenders for Saturday's final Absa Premiership match of the season at home to newly-crowned champions Bidvest Wits.

Centreback Mulomowandau Mathoho (concussion), leftback Sibusiso Khumalo (knee) and out-of-favour defender Siyanda Xulu (groin) have all been ruled out, leaving coach Steve Komphela thin at the back.

Mathoho should at least return for South Africa's opening Africa Cup of Nations qualifier away in Nigeria on the weekend of June 9-11 if selected...

Siphiwe Tshabalala returns for Kaizer Chiefs duty

Kaizer Chiefs' push for a top-three finish in the Premiership has received a boost with the news that in-form playmaker Siphiwe Tshabalala should be fit for the weekend's trip to Polokwane City.

The AmaKhosi trail third-place Cape Town City by five points with three rounds of matches to play, and will be eager to salvage something from another disappointing campaign with qualification for the African Confederation Cup.

Those chances would have been a lot slimmer without Tshabalala, who is having...

Itumeleng Khune of Kaizer Chiefs celebrates a goal during the 2017 Nedbank Cup match between Acornbush United and Kaizer Chiefs at the Kabokweni Stadium.

Kaizer Chiefs' unlikely push for the South African league title has received a boost with the news that goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune is back in training.

The experienced gloveman is working towards being fit for Sunday's Premiership clash against Lamontville Golden Arrows -- a must-win game if Chiefs are to have any chance of lifting the league title this campaign.

Khune, the most capped goalkeeper in South Africa's history, has missed the last two games for Chiefs where results likely ended their...

Cape Town City keep their championship dream alive

Cape Town City kept their noses ahead in South Africa's Premier Soccer League with another dramatic scalp on Tuesday as the prospect of a fairytale triumph in their maiden season remained on the cards.

But the latest round of PSL matches sent out an ominous warning to all the teams chasing the title as defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns continued their stealthy creep up the table and moved into second position after beating Ajax Cape Town 2-0 in Pretoria.

It was a result that moved Sundowns two...

SuperSport knock Chiefs out of Nedbank Cup via shootout

The SuperSport United-Kaizer Chiefs Nedbank quarterfinal lived up to expectation on Saturday night when extra-time and penalties were needed to separate the two PSL teams following a tight affair.

The first half lacked quality as SuperSport, coached by Chiefs' former coach Stuart Baxter, held shape and waited for Chiefs to make mistakes before hitting them on the break. As it happened, neither the visitors nor Steve Komphela's side were able to conjure up clear-cut chances and they went into half-time...
