Kaizer Chiefs can use Confederation Cup to change mood at Naturena

The 2018 CAF Confederation Cup is not yet over but already the new campaign starts in the continent's secondary knockout competition on Tuesday as teams enter the preliminary round.

Raja Casablanca hold a commanding 3-0 first-leg lead over AS Vita Club in the final of the current competition but still face what will surely be a daunting trip to Kinshasa for the return fixture on Sunday, especially as the Congolese felt hard done by in the opening game.

But before that matter...

Soweto derby loss for Chiefs comes as no surprise

Another deflating Soweto Derby loss for Kaizer Chiefs and the exit at the semifinal stage of another cup competition highlights the growing crisis at Naturena that threatens to turn the once mighty Glamour boys into one of the 'also-rans' of the Premier Soccer League.

The scoreline might only have been 2-1 in their latest defeat to Orlando Pirates, the first time in history that The Buccaneers have won three games on the bounce against their bitter rivals, but the margin on the field was much greater...

In this feature, ESPN rates the performance of the players on either side.

7 - Itumeleng Khune: Was not at fault for either goal and made a few good saves. Looked assured under the high ball.

5 - Rama...

Giovanni Solinas believes his Kaizer Chiefs side is in better shape to face bitter rivals Orlando Pirates this weekend as the pair square off in a Telkom Knockout semifinal at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Chiefs were well beaten when the teams met in the league last month, something not evidenced by the 2-1 scoreline.

But Pirates missed a penalty in that game and a number of other chances as they comfortably held the Chiefs attack at bay.

Solinas can ill afford another high-profile...

Moses Mabhida Stadium vandals await sentencing

Nine individuals found guilty of public violence for their actions following the Nedbank Cup semifinal between Kaizer Chiefs and Free State Stars in Durban in April face an anxious wait for their sentencing on December 12.

In ugly scenes that saw destruction to stadium infrastructure, seats set on fire, the assault of security guards and broadcast equipment worth over R2.5-million damaged or stolen, fans rioted after Chiefs lost the cup game 2-0 to continue a poor run of results.
