Kenny Saief seals national team switch from Israel to United States

Jeff Carlisle joins the FC show to assess Michael Bradley's comments on the USMNT under Bruce Arena vs. Klinsmann.
Kenny Saief has switched his allegiance from Israel to the United States.

Midfielder Kenny Saief will be eligible to play for the United States after FIFA approved his switch of national team allegiance from Israel, U.S. Soccer confirmed on Thursday.

The move clears Saief, who plays his club soccer for Gent in Belgium, to appear for the U.S. at this summer's CONCACAF Gold Cup, for which he was named to the preliminary 40-man squad.

Saief needed to complete the one-time switch because he had previously played for Israel's under-19 and under-21 teams.

Man United, Lyon and Schalke all reach Europa League quarterfinals

A pair of second-half goals from Schalke saw them come all the way back to advance on away goals against Borussia M'Gladbach.

A Juan Mata goal gave Manchester United a 1-0 win over Rostov at Old Trafford to send them into the Europa League quarterfinals with a 2-1 victory on aggregate on Thursday.

Despite Jose Mourinho's side creating a host of chances, Mata's second-half strike was the only goal of the game, but it proved to be enough to take them into the last eight of the competition, although the night was slightly soured by the sight of Paul Pogba being forced off with injury after the break.

United finally managed...

Kenny Saief is good enough for the Champions League, but not the U.S.?

Max and Herc ask MLS Commissioner Don Garber the tough questions on the league's growth, Miami and more.
Kenny Saief, a dual-national who plays for Gent, would prefer to represent the U.S. rather than Israel. Will he get the call-up? 'It is out of my hands. So I will wait.'

GHENT, Belgium -- When Kenny Saief sustained an abdominal injury during warm-ups before KAA Gent's Belgian league match on Sunday, he was understandably frustrated. Gent has the second leg of a Europa League match scheduled for Thursday, and the Belgian league's playoffs are a few weeks away.

But Saief, a talented midfielder who was born in the United States, raised in Israel and is eligible to play for both countries' national teams, did find a lone positive in the situation. "From the international...
