Matildas defender Clare Polkinghorne's stint with American club Houston Dash is over with the veteran returning to Australia for personal reasons.

The Dash announced on Thursday that the 30-year-old had been granted an immediate release due to "personal family reasons."

Capped 118 times by Australia, Polkinghorne has been with the National Women's Soccer League club since June 2018 and has been an ever-present this season either side of this year's Women's World Cup in France.

Australia international Kyah Simon eyes World Cup spot on Houston Dash return

It's been a dark journey, but crocked Matildas star Kyah Simon can see the light at the end of her injury recovery tunnel.

The forward's World Cup dream goes on the line next month when she makes her return from ankle surgery, which has kept her sidelined since January.

Simon flies to the United States on April 9 ahead of making her return to action in the NWSL with Houston Dash.

Houston Dash waive Banyana duo Thembi Kgatlana and Linda Motlhalo

The Houston Dash have waived the rights to two South African players, Thembi Kgatlana and Linda Motlhalo, the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) side announced on Tuesday.

The pair's departure means the Dash go from three Banyana Banyana players during the 2018 season to none, as veteran defender and South Africa captain Janine van Wyk has also called time on her tenure in Houston.
