Mark Warburton's tenure as Rangers boss began with a convincing if not water-tight 6-2 win over Hibernian in their Petrofac Training Cup first-round at Easter Road.

Much of the attention surrounded Hibs star Scott Allan, who has been the subject of two failed bids by the Ibrox club - the highest of £225,000 - but he started on the bench and came on in the second-half when the home side were chasing the game.

Before that it was fellow midfielder Sam Stanton who gave the home side the lead in the 13th...

Hibernian beat Rangers to second place in the Scottish Championship with a convincing 3-0 win over Falkirk.

The Edinburgh side knew they had to better Rangers' result against Hearts, and they made sure of claiming the runners-up spot thanks to goals from Martin Boyle, Jason Cummings and Dominique Malonga.

They will now bid to return to the top flight via two less play-off games than they would have faced if they had finished third.

Hibs, who named an unchanged side following last week's win over Alloa,...

Hibernian climbed to second after a convincing 4-1 win against Alloa.

Hibs dominated from the first whistle and Jordon Forster saw a header cleared off the line from Scott Allan's cross.

They took the lead in the 31st minute when Martin Boyle collected a pass from Allan and raced into the box before finishing low across goalkeeper John Gibson.

It was 2-0 before the break when what looked to be a cross from Liam Craig took a huge deflection off a defender and nestled in the top corner.

Craig hit a post...

Hibernian narrowed the gap on second-placed Rangers to a single point and increased Livingston's Scottish Championship relegation fears with a 3-1 win at the Energy Assets Arena.

An action-packed game got off to a frantic start with three goals inside the opening quarter of an hour as Hibs led through strikes from Scott Robertson and Jason Cummings either side of Myles Hippolyte's equaliser for the hosts.

There were further chances at either end before the first half finished with a red card for Livingston...

Falkirk booked their place in the William Hill Scottish Cup final with a smash-and-grab 1-0 win over Hibernian at Hampden Park.

The dominant Easter Road side hit the post just before the break through Fraser Fyvie and again in the second half through fellow midfielder Scott Allan, with the Bairns rarely threatening.

However, the Hibees were stunned in the 74th minute when Falkirk midfielder Craig Sibbald headed in a Blair Alston cross to set up a meeting on May 30 with either Inverness or Celtic.
