Damm Tigres vs Herediano 160817
Tigres' Jurgen Damm, center, vies for the ball with Pablo Salazar of Herediano.

Liga MX side Tigres cruised to a 3-1 win over Costa Rica's Herediano in Wednesday's CONCACAF Champions League action.

Neither team were able to break the deadlock in the first 45 minutes, but that all changed when Fernando Fernandez found the back of the net for U.A.N.L. just one minute after the restart.

Jose Sanchez Barquero pinched a goal back for the hosts 10 minutes later with a well-taken strike, before Damian Alvarez and Jorge Espericueta made sure of the victory for Ricardo Ferretti's side.

FC Dallas celeb vs Esteli 160804
FC Dallas defender Maynor Figueroa celebrates scoring the winning goal against Real Esteli.

FC Dallas dominated Real Esteli for 90 minutes but only managed a 2-1 victory in its Group H CONCACAF Champions League opener against the plucky Nicaraguan club.

The hosts peppered Justo Lorente's net throughout the first 45 minutes, hitting posts and crossbars on several occasions before Michael Barrios finally got Dallas on the board in the 44th minute.

But Real Esteli looked set to make a match of it as the second half began, when Juan Berdun picked up a pass from Franklin...

Cameron Porter's first goal as a professional will go down as one of the biggest in Montreal Impact history.

The CONCACAF Champions League (CCL) quarterfinals are done and dusted with four teams -- Montreal Impact, Alajuelense, Club America and Herediano -- advancing to the semifinals. Here are five observations from the week that was in the CCL.

1. Montreal extinguish ghosts of Torreon

Way back in 2009 after beating Santos Laguna 2-0 in the first leg of their CCL quarterfinal, the then-USL Montreal Impact were poised to advance to the CCL semifinals; they were losing by just a single goal, 3-2, in...

Club America throw down gauntlet in CONCACAF Champions League

Osvaldo Martinez and Club America are one step closer to their sixth CONCACAF championship following Wednesday's 3-0 win at Saprissa.
Osvaldo Martinez and Club America are one step closer to their sixth CONCACAF championship following Wednesday's 3-0 win at Saprissa.

The first legs of the CONCACAF Champions League are in the books with two teams -- Club America and Alajuelense -- all but booked for the semifinals, while the other two series are still very much up for grabs. Here are five takeaways from the week that was in the CCL.

1. Club America ruthlessly punish Saprissa

For a good stretch Saprissa were the dominant of the two sides in their Wednesday encounter with America. Playing in front of a frenzied crowd, the Costa Ricans swarmed the Mexican champions...

DC United, America seek CONCACAF Champions League semifinals

After winning a CONCACAF championship in 1998 as a DC United player, Ben Olsen is looking to pull off the same feat as the club's coach.
After winning a CONCACAF championship in 1998 as a DC United player, Ben Olsen is looking to pull off the same feat as the club's coach.

For the first time since the 2010-11 edition, the CONCACAF Champions League will begin its quarterfinal round in the month of February, much to the dismay of Major League Soccer sides Montreal Impact and DC United. While their quarterfinal counterparts from Costa Rica, Mexico and Honduras are well into their respective campaigns, the MLS pair will play their first official matches of 2015 this week, making their first-leg contests away from home that much more challenging. Here's a look inside...
